I'm also stationed oversea with the military...England to be exact. I tried several different converter and wasted over $200. The problem I was having was the picture was only black/white and the picture was too big for the screen. I was told only a worldwide VCR would solve the problem. However they cost $550 used and $1200 new. I read the review by the guy stationed in Turkey and decided to try it on a whim. It worked perfectly and I will recommend it to anyone moving to England as a cheaper option than buying a worldwide VCR or a new multisystem tv!!!!
PAL to NTSC Converter June 24, 2008
Pretty easy to use...its plug and play. It works fine for NTSC TV...no need for vertical adjustment, it automatically does it. I'd recommend this product for all PAL to NTSC convertions (e.g., TV, Video, DVD, Game console, etc.)

Good product, for the money I've invested, the quality is fare and the installation was very easy.
The only thing I can complain about (if I may) is the fact that it does not have an On/Off switch. So its always on and the leds on the front of the box are flashing, seeking for signal while my DVD is off. If you're watching TV in a complete darkness it may upset you a little. If that doesn't bother you - you'll be happy as I am with this product.

I am stationed in Turkey with the military, and bought a new $4,000 Sony LCD from our local store. Needless to say that even a $4,000 TV won't display the European PAL signal. Sony said it was b/c the TV is the new 1080P version (which is what I bought it for) but that as of right now those won't show a PAL signal. I ordered an analog converter for $30, but it only fixed one of my problems. My TV was encountering two different problems. 1. There was no color
2. The image was just scrolling down the screen
The analog only fixed the color problem, so I ended up spending the extra money and going with this one..which is digital. As soon as I hooked it up both problems were fixed. The only problem I see if the video quality isn't that great. You have to think about what it's doing though, it's switching viewing systems from PAL to NTSC (which NTSC will never look as good due to less lines per frame). All in all...it's a well made, solid piece of equipment with lots of options to fix your problem.
