4 out of 5 stars I'm in Love!!   October 30, 2008
I'm loving this device.. it's amazing.. Very useful and easy to manage...

The only thing, cost one star from my rate, is my device didn't recognize my SD 4GB FlashMemory.. I bought together with palm, but it doesn't work.. It's working in my computer and digital camera... Shame...

3 out of 5 stars Fast but limited   October 19, 2008
Nice to have a palm pilot with a bigger screen. My eyes are getting weaker and it really helps. Very fast processor. The bluetooth is a bit limited. I can hot sync without cables pretty quick. However, could not get my nice Motorola bluetooth headphones to pair with the TX. Some things just won't pair.

THe Blazer browser is pretty weak. Cannot get any you tube videos. Can't get much videos at all. Pretty much do not use it at all as a web browser. Also, had to know the encryption on routers I wanted to wifi to. My Itouch just knew. My Itouch has a much stronger browser with crystal clear picture.

I was really tempted to just use my Itouch instead of the TX. Memo is much better than Itouch "notes". Also, the TX has spread sheets and can use a key board. Have not found that for the Itouch.

In general, it is pretty much a business organization machine but falls short as an entertainment/business device.

4 out of 5 stars Great product...Not so great support.   October 7, 2008
The product itself is a great product. I have had none of the problems many of the other reviewers have experienced, except the issues with support. Palm customer "support" leaves much to be desired and my 1 MAJOR PROBLEM is that there is no upgrade for the Palm products software for the 64-bit edition of Window's Vista. So, I basically have a $300 paper weight. But, for the time I used it before switching computers to Vista, it was great! I'll just keep my fingers crossed that an upgrade will be released before long...

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed   September 27, 2008
I've had a Palm Zire 71 for several years and when it died recently I ordered a Palm TX.

The TX arrived 2 weeks ago. It looked like a nice little machine but I couldn't get it to HotSync with my desktop. It turned out the HotSync problem was because my Windows Operating System is an XP Pro Media Edition and the software that came with the TX was incompatible.

The documentation was no help and after I searched fruitlessly on the Palm website for a solution, a sales clerk at Office Depot advised me to look on the Palm site under Vista, and download the updated software, which I did.

With the updated software, HotSync worked just fine.

Unfortunately, that's about the only TX feature that *did* work. For no apparent reason, the digitizer suddenly went crazy. Then the buttons wouldn't work. Finally, the TX froze up and the power button just plain quit.

I went to the Palm website again, looked up the directions and did numerous hard resets. Each time, the TX would work for a while, then the digitizer would go crazy, it would freeze up and the power button wouldn't respond.

Since I'd had the TX for less than two weeks and was getting nowhere, I called Palm's Customer Support department and spoke with a technicioan. In addition to her decidely broken English, the Palm technician was so rude and unhelpful, I decided on the spot to return the TX for a refund instead of a replacement.

In contrast to the Palm technician, Amazon's customer service representative couldn't have been nicer and he made the return of my obviously defective TX virtually painless.

Because I am an ebook author as well as a regular ebook reader, I own several wireless reading devices, the first of which was a NuvoMedia Rocket that I purchased way back in 1998. So, as I advised the Palm technician, it was not as if I was a stranger to handheld devices.

Personally, after using my Palm Zire 71 for so long, I've come to love the Palm's display, speed and agility.

My old hp jornada, in comparison, is glacially slow, loses its data whenever the battery goes dead and won't sync with my Windows XP. OTOH, the jornada's built like a tank, it functions as well today as it did out of the box and resetting it is a breeze.

Based on my experience with the TX as well the reviews I've been reading here, there and elsewhere, I've concluded that Palm's quality control and customer suppoort must have gone to hell in a handbasket. And, since every other TX appears to be a lemon, I've been left wondering if that technician was so rude because she was sick and tired of fielding complaints about it.

Since I liked my Palm Zire 71 so well, I've ordered a brand-new silver Palm Zire 72 instead and am hoping I'll have better luck than I did with the TX.

2 out of 5 stars Screen problems   September 18, 2008
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

I liked the TX set up and features. Unfortunately, if you can't access them, it's a paperweight. The screen I got was touchy from the beginning and the digitizing function didn't help. Palm does not sell the replacement digitizer screens separately, and sending the product in for replacement was going to cost more than I paid for it. I couldn't get the screen from any other vendor, like I had done for my Palm E2. Eventually, the screen just stopped working and I couldn't fix it by hard reboot or anything. I have to get something else now, which is a shame. Before you buy this one, I would recommend reading the tech support pages off the Palm website. When I went there with my problem, I found I was in good company as many others had screen problems. I wished I had read them before I bought, but my previous Palm had been very good.
