Amazon.com Disney's 1959 animated effort was the studio's most ambitious to date, a widescreen spectacle boasting a gorgeous waltz-filled score adapting Tchaikovsky. In the 14th century, the malevolent Maleficent (not dissimilar to the wicked Queen in Disney's Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs) taunts a king that his infant Aurora will fatally prick her finger on a spinning wheel before sundown on her 16th birthday. This, of course, would deny her a happily-ever-after with her true love. Things almost but not quite turn out that way, thanks to the assistance of some bubbly, bumbling fairies named Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather. It's not really all that much about the title character--how interesting can someone in the middle of a long nap be, anyway? Instead, those fairies carry the day, as well as, of course, good Prince Phillip, whose battle with the malevolent Maleficent in the guise of a dragon has been co-opted by any number of animated films since. See it in its original glory here. And Malificent's castle, filled with warthogs and demonic imps in a macabre dance celebrating their evil ways, manages a certain creepy grandeur. --David Kronke
Description Heralded by audiences and critics alike, SLEEPING BEAUTY was the final fairy tale to be produced by Walt Disney himself. Now fully restored with revolutionary digital technology, its dazzling colors, rich backgrounds, and Academy Award(R)-nominated orchestrations shine brighter than ever. Their quest is fraught with peril as the fellowship must battle the evil witch and a fire-breathing dragon if they are to set the Beauty free. From spectacular action to the breathtaking pageantry of the princess and her kingdom, SLEEPING BEAUTY has something to charm every member of your family.

Not one of my fave Disney films June 24, 2008 For some reason, and I can't quite put my finger on it, but I'm really not into Sleeping Beauty. I adore Disney movies and have seen pretty much every one, with the exception of a couple. This does not rank high on my list. The story never really interested me, the music was just OK. It came as a bit old fashioned for me. That said, It's certainly not a bad movie by any means, just not as enjoyable as some of the other brilliant ones out there.
Major Rip-Off May 20, 2008 The DVD arrived in a timely fashion. However, it was cracked on the bottom of the DVD and was, therefore, unreadable by my DVD player. When I initially complained, I was promised another copy of Sleeping Beauty. Weeks have gone past and I never got the replacement copy. I then contacted both the vendor and Amazon and, now, over a month later -- still no replacement and no word. If you want to avoid being ripped off, I would seriously avoid this vendor.
Hard to Find April 17, 2008 Very hard to find, unless the goofy Disney vault re-releases it. I had a problem with the sticker around the DVD hole as this was from a Utah library. It got stuck in my DVD player, had to open it and take it out. Other than that the movie plays fine.
Horrible April 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I ordered a New 2 disc sleeping Beauty, and I received a Used 1 disc copy instead. The Used copy will not play in my dvd player... I have contacted the seller and they will not response back to me... I have contacted Amazon, and I am on Hold... I have asked for a refund, and been refused. I have been a faithful customer with Amazon for years, so needless to say, I am very disappointed in the treatment that I am getting from the seller and the company. If you go to the seller reviews, you will read nothing but bad comments from the customers who have ordered from them...
Sleeping Beauty April 6, 2008 I was very happy to get a good price and a tape in great condition. We have watched this many, many times. The order was placed and I received it within the same week. I am very satisfied. Thank you.
