Four Stars for the Movies/One Star for amazon and Disney. October 26, 2008 I didn't buy the boxset because of amazon's outragous price, I bought them seperately. I am also dissopionted that disney put these movies out of print. The Lion King deserves nothing but the best, though the trilogy as a whole is something of a mixed bag. But I will review the movies anyway.
The Lion King - 1994. This disney classic is for the ages. It has great acting, memorable characters and a spectacular soundtrack. I watch the movie now with only two complaints. I was surprised to see that the animation was not quite as amazing as I remember. I also wished it were longer. 4.5/5 stars.
The Lion King II: Simba's Pride - 1998. Direct-to-video sequel has inferior animation and bad new characters. But, it retains most of the first movie's cast who save the movie from it's mediocre script. Another plus is that Timon and Pumbaa are even funnier then they are in the first film. 2.5/5 stars.
The Lion King 1-1/2 - 2004. Hilarious Direct-to-DVD feature dosn't come close to the original, but it's really quite a lot of fun. It also retains some of the first movie's cast. My two only complaints were that the new characters, while good, become anoying sometimes and do not fit very well with some of the old characters. I also did not like that it went direct-to-DVD, I always have thought direct-to-video movies lack the grandeur of theatrical features. 4/5 stars.
The Lion King Movie Collection July 11, 2008 The Lion King Collection is a spectacular group of DVD's that one shoud have in their Disney collection. All Lion King movies were made to be enjoyable for children and adults. I enjoy them all. They arrived in excellent condition (plastic-wrapped new). I will enjoy them for a long, long time to come.
