Editorial Reviews:

Amazon.com
Unlike its predecessor, Halo 2, Vol. 1, this sequel doesnt offer any tracks by the likes of Breaking Benjamin or Incubus, though guitarist Steve Vai returns for a hilariously histrionic cameo on "Reclaimer" and Sumthing Else label boss (and Chic leader) Nile Rodgers remains on board as producer. Structuring the CD around a narrative-driven series of multi-part suites (though the track listing identifies the suites themselves and you cant go directly to a favorite sub-part), composers Martin ODonnell and Michael Salvatori show that when it comes to setting a mood, games composers don't have to fear comparisons with their Hollywood brethren. Things, for instance, get appropriately creepy on the "Destroyer's Provocation" part of "Mausoleum Suite." The main problem is that things sometimes sound too cheaply synthetic, as in "Unyielding." But considering we're dealing with a video game, the irony may not be lost on the fans. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

4 out of 5 stars H2 orchestra music rocks   June 23, 2008
If you enjoyed the game, this music will bring back great memories. This is all the classical music, so it's much different, and in my opinion much better, than Vol. 1. Definitely worth the money if you're a fan of the game and music.

2 out of 5 stars Why wasn't this on the fist album?   October 27, 2007

It is curious that the Halo 2 soundtrack was broken into two separate CD's in the first place, instead of just the 4 songs from the major bands that weren't part of the game. If you are true fan and just have to have all the music, drop the 10-12 bucks (new). Otherwise, I much prefer the music from Halo I.

3 out of 5 stars First one was better   October 24, 2007

I'm a huge fan of the first CD so bought the second... It has some great tracks but overall I thought that the first one was better.

5 out of 5 stars If you are a fan of Halo and it's music...   August 29, 2007
You will want this CD! Most of the music you hear in the game is a shortened version of the score that was written! It is an eclectic mix of contemporary rock with a classical flair! I strongly recommend this to music lovers as well as gamers that enjoy Halo!

4 out of 5 stars Yet another CD that demonstrates talent outside of movie-music   July 15, 2007
1 out of 1 found this review helpful

This CD was awesome, even compared to the Halo: Combat Evolved CD and the Halo 2 vol. 1 CD. It proves yet again that there is musical talent (or should I say SUPERB musical talent) in the gaming industry. There is even a song (possibly the best on the CD) featuring Steve Vai on guitar. The only problem with this CD is that it is comprised of suites, which are each made of different smaller "songs", and you can't skip to an individual movement in the suites. Overall, this CD shows that a great videogame deserves some great music to go along with it.
