5 out of 5 stars Best piece of workout equipment I've ever used   October 4, 2008
I started using this because my doctor scared the hell out of me by pointing out that people as thin as I am are normally in late-stage cancer treatment. So I decided my first goal was going to be getting up to at least 19 on the BMI chart. To do that, I needed to put on 12 pounds, and because I really have no desire to put on fat, my decision was to do it with muscle mass. Ordinarily, I would have started to lift weights, but I don't have a reliable spotter for bench work or squats, which are the traditionally fastest ways to put on mass. The Door Gym was the compromise for me. Using my own body weight for resistance, I assumed the worst I could do was tear a muscle, rather than crush my neck or destroy a couple of vertebrae.

This item has been fantastic! When I started a few weeks ago, I could manage one pull up on the neutral bars and zero traditional pull-ups (that's not at all unusual by the way: most people can't do a single pull-up). I've now gotten to the point where I do a couple of sets of 5 neutral-bar pull-ups, and can squeeze out a couple of traditional pull-ups, plus some narrow-handed chin-ups and pull-ups. That may not sound like a big deal to anyone who routinely throws around 50 pound dumbbells, but it's helped me add 7 pounds of muscle just by burning fuel fast enough to keep me hungry for 4 or 5 meals a day. I'm feeling better and stronger than I've felt in a very long time.

5 out of 5 stars Very nice product   October 3, 2008
After looking around for a couple of weeks I decided to get this door gym. It came in a big oversized box with a lot of packing paper (The bar was on the bottom tough). Assembling it was a breeze, just look at the pictures. The door gym did fit very good into the door opening and I use it now every time I'm near it. It is to early to tell if it makes me stronger however I think it is getting easier all the time. It is sturdy and light weight and can be removed in seconds.
Compared to other similar products I chosen this one because of ppositive feedback and free S&H.

3 out of 5 stars Creative Fitness Pullup Bar Assessment   October 1, 2008
This pullup bar is easy to assemble and functions well enough; however, although it fits the inside doors of the house very well, they are trimmed with a soft wood and this bar will deface that trim. We will not use it indoors. We do use it on the door of our detached garage that is used primarily as a weight room. Safety-wise, you have to ensure to maintain the force of weight on the bar while using and not jump or kick out too aggressively else it could slip from its grip. The small stabilizer clip on the wall brace side must be used for extra hold. The main problem is the width of our garage door. This exercise bar barely fits on that width, resting on the trim by the edge of the bar by a quarter inch either side. If this bar could be modular to adjust or extend by 3-4 inches with added foam pads, it would be perfect for a range of door widths. Even though forty bucks isn't overly expensive for serious 'gymnists', I believe it is priced too high. There are similar units I've found consequently that are $10-15 cheaper. We use it, we'll keep it. b2
