Brooks Beast August 29, 2008 This is a great shoe. I have some seriously flat feet, and until I got these shoes running was absolutely impossible. I'd go about 1/4 mile before I'd start getting horrendous pains all over my feet and shins. Once I slipped into these, I noticed an immediate difference even just walking around. For once in my life: No pain! I wear them every chance I get, and running is easy now.
There are a few problems though that should be mentioned. First, the base is so wide that running over uneven terrain (like stepping up onto or down from street curbs) can be difficult. This shoe has caused me to sprain my ankle badly twice. Part of the reason is because it is so stiff that if you land on an edge of the sole with enough force to roll onto the side, it will roll HARD and fast. This is not a problem on smooth dry surfaces, but be extra careful on wet surfaces, stairs or grass. Absolutely do not play basketball, football or any kind of sport that involves jumping or lateral movement in this shoe. Like I said if you hit an edge, you are gonna be in serious pain and have a purple swollen foot.
It is made in China, but it is very durable. Both my pairs have lasted over a year and have probably 600-700 miles between them.
great shoes August 26, 2008 these are great..i got them for my dad..after seeing how much my hubby loved them even after a year of use...the color combinations are not great...but then..the support is phenomenal
Heavy runner's long distance shoe August 18, 2008 I weigh 190, size 8.5 - 9 feet, and had leg and knee pain with Asics and other store recommended shoes. The beast by Brooks has been the shoe I've comfortably worn now for several months and the pains have nearly disapeared. I run more than 20 miles per week consistently and they are holding up great. I ran 15 miles in them 2 days ago feeling great. 1st Marathon, here I come.
One problem was a piece of decorative rubber pressed against my foot, just behind my big toe. It's on the exterior of the shoe and looks like a little swoop. I used an exacto knife to cut it off and the rubbing stopped. I'll be buying more of the Beast.
Perfect Shoes, Great Service August 17, 2008 These are the only shoes my feet will wear! They are supportive, comfy and perfect for someone who has to be on their feet all day!
The Beast July 17, 2008 The Beast is the best shoe for me. Being heavier than most heavy runners (260 pounds), the support and cushioning is very important. I've been running in the Beast shoes for several years now and haven't had any problems. These shoes arrived on time and were the correct size and color.
