Excellent and fun workouts October 14, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I should make a small disclaimer. I've been lifting weights for decades and I already eat clean. Moreover, I've already lost a good deal of weight simply doing what I know to do.
But, with that out of the way, I was looking for something to shake up my metabolism a bit and get a change of workouts. I don't usually buy into these infomercials. (I write them, however.) But I love working with resistance bands and thought, "Why now give it a try." So, I did.
First, let me tell you what I don't like. The DVDs have a decent menu so you can select your workout easily. And the deluxe version does contain warmups. But I would have preferred a cool down incorporated into the workouts.
Now, I'm used to working with dumbbells and barbells and taking a 60 to 90 second rest between sets. With this program, goodbye rest. You work hard for ten minutes. That equals about twenty minutes in the weight room.
There are disadvantages to that. You get your muscle growth by taking longer rests. But I enjoy these ten minute workouts because they give me a great cardio (which I hate on its own) as well as lots of muscle work and --- I get it fast. That has to help speed up your metabolism.
I don't intend to do this all the time. I'll return to my weights. But when I want to shake things up and make a change, I'll do these. When you do the same workout over a long period of time, you stop getting gains and begin to plateau if you're trying to lose weight.
I do not like Tony's nutrition plan. The clean eating is fine. I have lost weight and recovered from some chronic health problems by clean eating. So, I recommend it. I do not, however, think that 1000 calories per day is enough for hardly anyone. That's not even basal metabolism for most people. So I would at least talk to a nutritionist or your doctor or someone knowledgeable about that. (Most doctors really don't know too much about this subject.)
In fact, a low calorie diet will actually slow down your metabolism. And when you're working out, you need fuel. When I hit a plateau, I had to eat more food in order to start losing again.
So the nutrition part is something I can't buy into. There are, however, some great meal suggestions that are very easy and quick to prepare and very good for you.
Tony is not a really exciting or motivational instructor. I've seen better. But, he's not bad. And in the deluxe version, you'll get some great extra workouts that are not available in the regular version. They're really powerful workouts and are my favorites. It's worth the extra money to invest in the deluxe version. You'll probably regret not buying it.
With the warmup and a proper cool down, the actual length is about 15 minutes. I expect if you do them right, you'll burn a lot of calories with these workouts.
I highly recommend this program. Just be cautious cutting calories.
