The user-friendly compass features a large, liquid-filled capsule and an adjustable declination correction scale that guarantees a high level of accuracy. Another convenient feature is the serrated bezel ring, which is easy to turn even in cold conditions while wearing gloves. And thanks to the easy-to-read luminous markings and magnifying lens, the M-3G is ideally suited to navigating in poor visibility. The compass even features a base plate with anti-slip rubber pads for stability and rounded edges for ergonomic comfort in the hand. The real star of the M-3G, however, is its global needle, which works anywhere on the planet. Previously, most compasses functioned well in only one of five geographic zones. That's because the compasses were balanced differently based on the zone's inclination, i.e., the vertical intensity and direction of the Earth's magnetic field. However, as people began to travel more, it became clear that globe-hoppers needed compasses with a greater geographical range. Suunto responded by developing two-zone systems--which work in either the northern or southern hemisphere--and one-zone systems such as the global M-3G. Have used this compass twice so far. Once on a 15 mile trek thru part of the Adirondack Park this winter and on a 4 mile snowshoe trek closer to home. Precision is superb. Used it conjunction with a USGS topo map each time. Came back to within 25 yards of my original point of departure in both cases.

Good: Needle is stable and settles quickly.
I seem to get repeatable readings from the compass.
Quality look and feel.
Unknown (yet): Durability, haven't had it long enough.
Less good: Oddly, the instructions seem generic and don't mention that you can adjust the declination via the small screw on the back.
For the money I expected at least a cheap cover to protect against scratching, etc.
The needle tilts slightly (because it's the international model?).
