Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Beet Sugar is derived from the refining of sugar beets. It contains 99% pure sucrose and is a suitable substitute for cane sugar in all recipes. Some people who are allergic to table sugar may be able to use beet sugar. Serving Size: 1 teaspoon Suggested Use: Use the same amount as cane sugar

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars excellent for kombucha brewing   February 10, 2008
I find this sugar to be the best for kombucha brewing, it creates a very dry high yeast brew that tastes beyond that of cane sugar. Excellent indeed.

5 out of 5 stars Better than Cane Sugar   May 7, 2007

First of all, I want to say that I like ALL of NOW brand products. They are top quality and low prices. I used to work in a health food store and know that NOW is reasonably priced because they don't waste a lot of money on fancy packaging and expensive advertising. They are family owned and have a high criteria for quality products.

I have a sensitivity to cane sugar. Being a home baker makes it difficult to make cakes, cookies, etc. I switched to sugar alcohols (Splenda, Xylotol, etc.) and Erythritol plus Stevia. The problem with most of these is that they don't carmelize and they change the texture of most baked goods. A combination of Erythritol and Stevia works well for most things but it isn't right for some things. Erythritol carmelizes but is only 70% as sweet as sugar. Stevia is way sweeter than sugar so the two combined work well.

I try to be low carb in my diet. But I found that adding a touch of Beet Sugar to my Erythritol/Stevia Formula gives it the right consistency and texture and mouthfeel. Also Beet sugar is good for bringing up the juices in fruits and adding the right texture to homemade ice cream. It is also good for adding to low-sugar home made jams along with either Stevia alone or with Erythritol.

I discovered the joys of Beet sugar when I was in Europe (where it is used instead of cane sugar). I still seek out European made chocolate bars because they are made with beet sugar. I have no reaction. If I accidentally get cane sugar in anything, my face swells like a blowfish and I get red rashes on my body. Thank goodness for beet sugar.
