 An absolute must accessory October 14, 2008
The Garmin portable dashboard mount has been a lifesaver for me. While I do not travel a lot, being able to take it with me when I do means I do not have to pay the outrageous fee that the car rental companies chage to have one in your vehicle. This item is a must have for anyone who travels or who has more than one car. The mount stays firmly in place on your dashboard and does not detract from your driving.
I Haven't Tried Anything Else... October 13, 2008
After reading all the reviews, I went straight to this for my Streetpilot c580and I'm very happy. I was a little timid about really snapping it in, cuz you have to really PUSH it in, but it pops in and out, and is quite secure, whether on the dash or seat next to me. I'm not timid about turning corners or braking, and it does not move. Upon arriving at my destination, I pop the c580 off, put it in my purse, put the mount under the seat and go about my business.

Bought this item in addition to Garmin GPS. Great to use when moving GPS from vehicle to vehicle. No need to use the windshield mounting device that comes with GPS and therefore, no mounting device will be visable in vehicle for possible vandilism. Just pick up portable dashboard mount and store away with GPS. Great item for the price.

Stand does not slip around, and although it is not a rigid mount, it does very well. Allows removing to secure place when stopping briefly, then continuing without disconnecting and losing trip times, distances, etc.

Works very well; my Nuvi 350 doesn't slip or slide, despite turns, acceleration, or braking.
