Straight Handle Fiskars scissors vs. Offset Handle Fiskars scissors July 11, 2008

Since I have become a scissors expert, I was asked why do some scissors have a bent handle? These are also called "offset" handles:

The answer is because of the different types of application they are meant to perform. The bent or offset handle keeps the cutting hand off of the cutting surface such as a table top or bench such that the scissors can glide through the material without it bunching up and distorting the cut.
Straight handle scissors are better suited for cutting through material that you can free hold with your other hand. Fiskars 94547097 No.8 Razor-Edged Scissors

There are off set, i.e., "bent", straight, right handed and left handed models as well.
These Fiskars scissors have sharp stainless steel blades. They cut through fabric and paper well.
Do not cut wire or sheet metal with scissors. You will definitely ruin them. Instead use wire cutters or aviation snips designed to do that type of work.
