Big Light - Short Battery September 28, 2008 I really love the look and the sturdiness of this flashlight. It's hefty and gives off a huge bright beam of light. We have used it for hooking up things behind the TV, checking the water softener in the dark corner of the garage...and for quick uses it's fantastic. That's the good news.
The bad news is that the battery lasts about 15 minutes, 20 at the most. You also can't run the light while it's plugged in. There are those times when you aren't in the middle of a power outage, but just want some extra light...no such luck.
I wouldn't recommend it or buy it again. I'd go for something smaller that will last longer.
Overrated "Flashlight" January 15, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this "spotlight" for a gift to use when shining for deer and this spotlight was horrible. I have normal flashilights that shine better that this!
Great Value for a Powerful Light January 15, 2008 I need to start by saying that my wife calls this "The Man-Light". Make no mistake you are getting a very large, and somewhat heavy, spot light. Fortunately, it also comes with two settings - 1. The Sun 2. Full Moon Setting (My terms and not theirs).
The Sun (or the high intensity setting)-
VERY bright - probably not 10 Million Candlepower as it claims... I would guess closer to 5 Million, but still plenty bright for most of us. On this setting you can illuminate a building at about 1000 feet. Another surprising is that the beam is relatively wide and will illuminate a large area (maybe this is why I underestimate the overall candle power of the unit).
The Moon setting (Lower intensity beam)-
This setting is similar to avery bright flash light. I have a 3 Watt LED flashlight that I "thought" was bright. The low intensity beam on this unit is significantly brighter and illuminates a much greater area. In all honesty, this setting is as bright as most of us will ever need - probably 1 Million Candlepower.
Another surprising aspect is that the battery life has surpassed my expectations. I use the light to take our dog each night (typical trip is about 2 minutes) I have done this for about 2 weeks straight without the need to recharge the battery - so far so good!
Final verdict? I would be impressed with this light at any price (even though I still feel that calling it 10 Million candlepower is somewhat optimistic) - at Amazon's prices this light is an outstanding bargain - 5 stars!
Wrong picture & specs December 21, 2007 Bait & switch! I purchased 2 of these, thinking that they were the Cyclops 10MCP shown in the picture and described in the specs. What came were two cheapo units that are similar to the Scout model. The batteries were two 6V 5Ah wired in series, and the construction was cheap plastic all around.
Northern agreed to refund my money for the return, but not shipping. For the +$40 total shipping I would've had to drop (both ways), it was more feasible to just keep these as beater units.
The light pictured in this sale is a good one ... but it's not what you get when you order from Northern.
it's okay September 14, 2007 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Light is very bright, it's actually awesome, but battery life is terrible, it's like 10-15 minutes and the light is bigger and bulkier then it looks.
