Amazon.com Product Description The Xantrex Technologies XPower Plus 400-watt inverter provides portable power for trucks, RVs, boats, and minivans. By plugging the inverter directly into your vehicle's 12-volt cigarette lighter, you can turn your vehicle into a mobile office and operate devices such as a 27-inch TV or 20-inch TV/DVD combo, a camcorder, and a laptop computer. This compact, lightweight unit automatically senses low battery voltage so you never have to worry about a depleted battery. It's a quiet alternative to noisy, gas-powered generators; it will provide hours of emergency power during snowstorms or blackouts. The high-efficiency design transfers 90-percent of the battery's power to your equipment, providing 400 watts for 5 minutes, 600 watts surge for easy startups, and 300 watts continuous power for operating appliances. An automatic shutdown mechanism protects against overload, over-temperature and low battery conditions. The inverter is equipped with two 3-prong grounded AC outlets, a DC outlet and hardwire applications. The durable plastic unit is 5.9-by-4.1-by-2.2 inches in size and just 2.4 pounds in weight. It is covered by a 1-year warranty.

RV inverter user March 16, 2008 We've had this inverter for about a year now and have used it on several trips in our RV. We mainly use it to power our Dishnetwork 311 receiver and 12V 15" TV. It works great for this application plugged into a cigarette lighter outlet. We also use it for AC battery chargers for all of our AA and AAA rechargable batteries. We also use it to recharge our walki-talkies. The fan runs on and off while watching the Satellite Tv but the unit does not really get hot. Highly recommended.
Works great in the center console of our van March 11, 2008 This is a solid inverter. Works great. We have it inside the center console in our van which has a plug in for it. Never overheats and powers the dvd players for the kids.
Just what I needed February 28, 2008 This is just what I needed. It has two plug-ins on it and plugs into the cigarette lighter in your car. I've taken in on several road trips and used it for hours upon end. There is a fan on it that comes on when it is in use, but you can only hear it if the car is completely silent.
I've seen/had others and this is the best one I could find for the money. Note: the plugs are kind of close together, so you are unable to plug two cell phone chargers into it unless you buy a small extender piece for one of the plugs ($1). I have one and use it when I need it, but that's not very often.
It's a good buy.
Works.... February 2, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Item works as described, the built in cooling fan seems to run more as the battery gets lower (12.24v) even under small load.but it is not very loud.great for small backup power...
Awesome Power Inverter January 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We bought this Power Inverter right before Christmas so my wife and daughter could watch movies on the laptop in the car. We drove about 8 hours total, and the laptop didn't skip a beat! Not only did it help keep the family entertained, but it also saved Christmas. On the night we were opening presents, a storm blew through and knocked out the power for almost 4 hours. The kids were upset that they couldn't open presents, so I ran an extension cord from the car to 2 lamps in the living room. It worked perfectly! I started the car twice during that 4 hour timeframe just to make sure it didn't drain the car battery. I highly recommend this product.
