Product Description
Oasis, one of the most commercially successful rock bands in history, joins Warner Bros (for North America) for the iconic British band's seventh studio album (produced by Dave Sardy), Dig Out Your Soul. The group's first album since 2005's Don't Believe The Truth, Dig Out Your Soul marks a new sound for Oasis. Hailed as the band's best work in a decade, Dig Out Your Soul offers a musical oasis for rock fans everywhere!

Album Description
With classic tracks like "Wonderwall", "Live Forever" and "Don't Look Back In Anger", Oasis are one of the biggest British bands in history. 6 successful studio albums later, Oasis has been and still is a revered and prolific reference for indie guitar music around the world and are one of the very few bands that have achieved both critical acclaim and commercial success. They have sold more than 50 million records worldwide, and have had eight UK number-one singles. Dig Out Your Soul is the seventh studio album from the band and is preceded by the highly anticipated first single 'The Shock of The Lightning'. Oasis is back once again to prove that they are not just only the biggest British band of the past decade, but will remind the world that they are and will be around for the next decade putting out another great rock record.

4 out of 5 stars Sounds great   November 12, 2008

Dave Sardy truly earned his keep with this one. It may be the best produced Oasis album ever. The drums sound incredible, something I've never said about an Oasis album. But even better, Oasis have recorded two of their best rockers in a long time: Bag It Up and Shock of the Lightning. The band bashes out these two and even have the decency to provide us with a nice melody and a good hook. There are other second tier highlights as well: The Turning (despite its annoying Austin Powers chorus "Shake your rag doll, baby"), Falling Down and To Be Where There's Life (the sitar actually works on this poppy song by Gem). Most of the other songs are enjoyable and well done, but not too memorable. Two of Liam's songs are interesting. I'm Outta Time does have a nice melody and flow to it, but it is undercut by a few jarring elements: the George Harrison sounding guitar and the Lennon sample at the end are just too much, creepy almost. Soldier On is very cool as well and serves as a good album closer. But just like Liam's decent closer on Heathen Chemistry (Better Man) the song needs to go somewhere, and it never does. Bell's the Nature of Reality has a nice riff, good beat and is strangely catchy but it just kind of plods along (and the lyrics are in Spinal Tap territory). Shockingly, of the first eight songs on this album, two of Noel's songs are by far the weakest: Get off Your High Horse Lady (it's as bad as the title) and Waiting for the Rapture. Just like Mucky Fingers on DBTT, Noel's Waiting for the Rapture threatens to derail the flow of the otherwise excellent first half of this album. Dig Out You Soul may not be as deep as it pretends to be (those lyrics, geez) or as classic as it wants to be, but it it is a good pop/rock album. The song writing does not always keep up with the quality of the band's performance and the production. A lot of reviewers ask: is this the best Oasis album since they imploded after the over-hyped (but underrated) Be Here Now? I think that question, though entertaining, misses the point. With aging bands like Oasis, I am not really looking for them to make another stone cold classic album. And all of Oasis' post-BHN albums have their moments of goodness or greatness. But the standout track on Dig Out Your Soul are the best stand out tracks on any Oasis album in a long time.

5 out of 5 stars One to add to your music library   November 8, 2008

I have never been a fan of Oasis; their most recognizable songs of course being 90's hits such as "Wonderwall". This album is a completely different animal however. An excellent mix of that great british invasion sound, along with modern overtones; it produces an album that has strong tracks from top to bottom. It's very good from a first listen, but also grows on you in subsequent reviews. If you have never owned an Oasis album, this is definitely one to check out.

4 out of 5 stars I dig this one a lot   November 7, 2008

Deep into their musical careers, the Gallagher brothers and their cohorts continue to release some of the best rock `n' roll around, the last hard men of a dying breed of true rock stars. Far from just disposable pop musicians, Oasis songs have evolved into more complex, sometimes messy numbers that often involve atmospherics, at times experimentation and a more shared aura that reflects the songwriting vision of the entire group. "Dig Out Your Soul" is, surprisingly, one of the best, most heartfelt efforts ever from Oasis, an amazing thing to admit given the quality of this band's past stellar work.

Instead of dickering around with a left-field choice for a radio single, the guys smartly released the incredible "The Shock of the Lightning," a tune that encompasses everything great about Oasis. The tune is a driving, catchy hard-rocker where Liam sounds in top form and a steady organ tunefully and deftly balances out the hail of noise. At one point, Zak Starkey's rip-roaring drums receive the limelight alongside the mesmerizing, droning organ, and it almost seems like Oasis have reinvented themselves in one fell swoop.

Interestingly, along with the plethora of chunky guitar riffs, Liam's somewhat less cloying vocals and Noel's stately guitar solos, the drum work on "Dig Out Your Soul" is some of the most prominent-in-the-mix and impressive I've ever heard from Oasis. Additionally, there's some well-placed piano and keyboard work on tunes like "The Turning" and "Soldier On" that give the band a depth of maturity and musical craftsmanship it may not always get credit for.

Two of the Noel-sung songs are, as is often the case, swanky bar-room stompers that perfectly fit his old soul, while "Falling Down" is a beautiful track that perfectly complements his voice. And brother Liam continues to evolve into an equally good songwriter himself, adept at writing airy, head-in-the-cloud ballads ("I'm Outta Time"), raw rockers in the vain of Stone Temple Pilots ("Ain't Got Nothin'") and echo-filled, philosophical closers ("Soldier On"). What's surprising is the phenomenal contributions from Oasis's other half, Gem and Andy Bell. With its cool Middle Eastern flair, Gem's "To Be Where There's Life" is one of the smoothest, most soulful and dance-worthy tracks ever released by Oasis, while Bell's "The Nature of Reality" offers an irresistibly dirty riff and stop-start formula that grows on you.

If there's a reason I'm not giving this CD a five-star rating, I can't quite figure out what it is. Surprisingly, it may be two of the tracks that Noel sings on which feel a bit clunky to me ("Waiting for the Rapture" and "(Get Off Your) High Horse Lady"), but that's nitpicking. The bottom line is that this is the best new rock `n' roll CD I've heard in quite some time, and if you dig Oasis, then it's time to "Dig Out Your Soul."
