Great activity for fun and also like an excercize September 11, 2008
I submitted a picture showing the 7 x 21 and the 8x8 size drums.
They give good sound. There are not a toy although they may look like toys. Large surface allows for different sounds in striking. Small drum may look small but it delivers loud sound also. Sticks or mallets or hands can be used. Can build up coordination. Each drum comes with 2 mallets felt tip , very soft. 8 inches long mallets.
To sum it up this type drums are good in every way to me.
Have fun. Great for children.
Drum sounds do cause people to gather. You will see.
Lots of Fun December 9, 2007
Just got this drum for my kids. They love banging on it and so do we. Their drumming echoes through the house. It's got great sound. Great fun for the family (the four of us fit around the drum). I would suggest ordering extra mallets if you think sharing will be an issue with your kids.

OK, it *can* be beat ... with the mallets. It has a wonderful tone for a synthetic drum. If you're hoping for the subtle bass of a hanging gathering drum made of hide strung over wood, you'll be disappointed. Taken for what it is, though, it can anchor a drum circle, whether of adults or kids.
Mine arrived yesterday and I dragged it in to work today. We closed our final group with a drumming circle - as we have several times in the past - but this time we had the bass added by this drum. The deep rhythm melded the circle together tighter than it has been before. The vibrating dooms shook the room, resonated in our hearts, and held the energy.
This is a mighty good piece of percussion for anybody on a budget. The biggest problem is figuring out where to store it! (I have a tiny office.)

My mother purchased this drum for my 11 month old son for Christmas. He absolutely loves it! He just laughs and babbles the whole time that he is playing it. His play group came over this week and all of the kids thought it was great. They only wanted to play with the drumsticks and not their hands - so I guess we will be purchasing a few extra drumsticks! Should be great for years to come!

We purchased this drum over a year ago from the manufacturer. It is excellent for allowing one child or up to about 4-5 kids to get around it. It has a great sound! We paid more than this price and it was still worth it. My kids LOVE it and my daughter's school has one and LOVES it. Great quality materials and very tough.
