1 out of 5 stars Doh   September 29, 2008
I took it out of the box and put the thermometer and barometer in the wooden base. I very very carefully carried this to a shelf. After 2 steps the thermometer lost balance and fell. Smash. Doh. Lessons learnt. Cry.

4 out of 5 stars Customer Service   July 2, 2007

When I received my order, the thermometer was broken in half. The package was soaked with the fluid and leaking. I requested an RMA from Amazon and returned the package the next day - postage free. I had my replacement unit within 5 days. It works great and is very entertaining - for the adult that it was purchased and also for our grandchildren. Amazon's customer service was above reproach....quick, efficient and with no additional charges to me. I wish that every buying experience could end that satisfactorily. Thanks!

When I received this item one of the sphere's was broken in the bottom of the tube. I sent it back and was then informed that this item was not available.

The Chaney Instrument Galileo Thermometer w/ Glass Ball Barometer is a great buy because it is so fun to watch and so functional at the same time. I get a joy each morning reading where the spheres are and how high the water level is in the barometer.

5 out of 5 stars Fun and sort of useful   March 25, 2007

I purchased this item, and the 17" stand alone thermometer model. I knew nothing about barometers. I knew nothing about Galileo thermometers. I use this model in my living room.

The weather glass does indeed respond to pressure changes, and does a nice job of predicting foul weather. The thermometer is accurate, easy to read (and interpolate). It only works in a range of 64 thru 80 degrees F, but anything above or below those readings is likely to require I do something with the heating and cooling around my house, so it tells me what I need to know.

I think this is a great gift for kids interested in science. I have other weather glasses too, but this one comes in combination with a neat, accurate thermometer. I'm not a kid anymore, but I find it fun, as well as useful, myself.
