Great for multiple cats August 1, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I used Arm & Hammer scoopable litter for years. One day, my grocery store was out of that brand, and I picked up my first box of Fresh Step. I've never looked back. When they introduced the cedar additive, it only made the product that much better. The odor from the box of two cats can be quite pungent, as you can imagine. However, with this brand, and particularly with this additive, the problem with odor has been eliminated! If I have to resort to using another brand, I find that I need to add baking soda to the mix just to keep the urine smell down! Never had a problem like that with the Fresh Step. Carbon additive or not, neither one of my pets has ever suffered from using this litter. I highly recommend it.
Beware the carbon! June 22, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Fresh Step Cedar now has odor eliminating carbon. Great! You think? Well you're wrong! I used this new Fresh Step Cedar with carbon and was sorely disappointed. Before switching I was using the Fresh Step with Cedar without carbon and my cats and I loved it. As soon as I used the one with added carbon my cat started to lose his fur. His belly is almost completely bare. Other than the change in litter there was nothing different in his life and he was otherwise acting normal. When I would clean the box it would be covered in fur and black gooey carbon dust. There was no improvement in the odor at all. I felt the Fresh Step Cedar without carbon was just fine with eliminating odor. With cat litter you have to expect some odor, but I was pretty pleased with Fresh Step before the carbon was added. Needless to say I had to switch back to the litter without carbon. (I was lucky enough to find a leftover box in the store) Now when I clean the box there is no fur stuck to the sides and no black goo to scrub. I sincerely hope Fresh Step gets rid of this carbon in their litter because the problems far outweigh the benefits. Who wants a naked cat?!?
