The best remedy for feline herpes October 19, 2008 This stuff just works. One of my cats loves the taste, the other tolerates it - who can account for taste, especially cats' taste? But Enisyl-F (L-Lysine) really speeds their recovery and that's all that matters. At the first sign of sneezing, wheezing, coughing, or squinty eyes (for which I also use Terramycin ointment), I start feeding them a quarter inch of Enisyl-F twice a day and they're feeling better in a few days. Also, the price offered through Entirely Pets via Amazon is great. Love the new larger dispensers too.
AbsolutelyPets Is A Great Company! October 9, 2008 Four Paws Up! (and you know how difficult that is for two kitty cats)
AbsolutelyPets received my order over the weekend, I got a note from Amazon saying that my order shipped on Tuesday and it was waiting at my door today - Wednesday! Their pricing and service is excellent - I reccomend them heartily to anybody who needs AbsolutelyPets' products for their their pets.Enisyl-F (L-Lysine) Nutritional Supplement for Cats, Metered Dose Pump 100 mL, 3 Pack
Great product September 29, 2008 Not only was the service fast-this stuff is really working for my year old kitty who has had a runny eye issue since we got him from the shelter nearly a year ago. This product was recommended by the vet-and it REALLY DOES work! His eye is SO MUCH BETTER now-still runs occasionally-but nothing like it used to Thank you-we will order again when we run out!
Great product! August 17, 2008 Nemo, who is 4, has had runny eyes and nose since a kitten. Always thought it was allergies. He had a crisis a few weeks ago. The eyes were awful, nose very stuffed, lots of sneezing, and he wasn't eating or drinking. Even though he's been vaccinated, he probably had a Herpes infection just after birth, and has chronic Herpes. Got a sample of Enisyl-F from the vet's office and gave him 2ml twice a day. It began to work within a week. He's on maintenance of 1-2 ml a day. No more sneezing or stuffy nose, very little tearing. I ordered several bottles of Enisyl-F and am refilling the syringe dispenser I got from the vet. It's easier to squirt it right into his mouth than put it in his food and hope he gets it all. Wish the company still made those syringes.
L-Lysine has proven to work in studies. July 22, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
In response the 'virologist' that states that L-Lysine has no documentation that it works, I beg to differ. There are numerous studies in the human population that suffers from Herpes Simplex that L-Lysine works. (I was in one of those studies!) Extrapolating this to the feline population that suffers from Herpes, albeit a slightly different version, it can be assumed to work. Anecdotal reports from cat owners such as myself give testimony to it's effectiveness.
My personal anecdote is that my Persian was suffering so severely from Herpes in his eyes that his ophthalmologist (yes, there is such a thing as a cat ophthalmologist) felt she was going to have to extract his left eye and possibly both eyes. After 2 months of treatment with multiple anti-virals, antibiotics and anti-inflammatory drugs, my cat still had corneal ulcers from the Herpes so severely that even I was considering allowing his ophthalmologist to remove at least one eye. I could see no other way to stop his obviously severe pain. And to this day, his corneas are visibly and severely scarred from those ulcers.
Finally, his ophthalmologist suggested L-Lysine at 400 mg per day. When that did nothing, I upped his dose to 1,000 mg per day after reading on the Internet that it often took that much to be effective. Within 3 days, I could see a huge improvement. Within another week, his eyes were healed. After having chronic eye infections for his entire 2 years of life, he didn't get another infection for a year and a half. At that time, I upped his dose again to 1,250 mg per day and he is again free of infections.
L-Lysine doesn't cure Herpes. Once a cat has Herpes, it is for life. What it does is interfere with the replication of the virus, which damages the tissues and allows 'super' infections caused by bacteria to develop.
Oh, and I forgot to say that prior to my being in that L-Lysine study for herpes simplex type that I suffered from herpes outbreaks 2-4 times a month since I was a very young child. I have had only 2 or 3 outbreaks since that study and only when I slack off taking my L-Lysine. That study was nearly 20 years ago. I think that anecdotal report is pretty telling, as well!
