Product Description The challenge of Quiddler is to arrange your entire hand into words. Draw and discard in turn. Try to use those high point letters, but don't get caught with them uncombined! Quiddler is fast paced because you can play using everyday words. A bonus is given for the most words in each round (so little words can help you win), as well as for the longest word. Quiddler is a delightful challenge for both rookies and word game lovers. Quiddler is for up to eight players.
Editorial Review The rules are brutal, but the rewards are worth it in this card game that works a bit like Scrabble. Although there is a solitary version of the game for one player, you can play with up to eight. Cards containing letters of the alphabet and special combinations of letters are dealt in increasing number each time the dealer completes a round. Once you've collected your share, you can discard and pick up a new card with each turn. The object is to turn all the letters in your possession into dictionary-proof words while leaving one stray card as a final discard. You want to be the first to accomplish the goal, of course, but there is a scoring system that makes the play competitive for everyone. One nice element is the cards themselves: the letter design is based on beautiful artwork from Celtic manuscripts. This card game is a 1999 Parents' Choice Silver Award winner. --Tom Keogh

A great mind-challenging game August 30, 2008 Quiddler is a very challenging game for adults and teenagers. It helps to develop vocabulary, is easy to learn, and doesn't take hours to play. Younger children can also play, but adults will have a decided advantage.
Better than Scrabble! August 26, 2008 Get this game--agree on the house rules regarding use of dictionary--and HAVE FUN! Currently our favorite game.
Well worth it. August 19, 2008 For such a simple concept, this game is a lot of fun. We can play in any of the languages used in our home (English, French, or Spanish). I enjoy this game more than I do the traditional game of Scrabble, mainly because it is a quicker game and you can keep a running score of how well (or how poorly) you are doing. Other great features are the portable nature of the game; the single/two-person/multiple-player modes of play; and the sturdy, laminated cards. I would recommend this game to anyone who enjoys crosswords and other word puzzles.
a fun cross between Gin and Scrabble July 21, 2008 This is a fun game. The rules are similar to Gin -- get each card in your hand into a straight before your opponent does and you win. But instead of suits and numbers each card has a letter or pair of letters, and the goal is to make words. The first hand is 3 cards, the second hand is 4 cards, etc...on up to 13 cards.
I like this game because unlike Scrabble, the person with the amazing vocabulary doesn't always win, because several short words are just as effective in using up your cards as one long word. (In fact, you get a 10 point bonus for either longest word OR most words). So my 8 year olds aren't outgunned by their word-loving elders.
As a nice plus, the art work on the cards themselves is well done.
The only minus is that the deck is double sized (110 cards) and so shuffling is a bear. Would also have been nice if they included a container that held the whole deck (instead it comes with a tray that has slots for 2 half decks.)
Quiddler Game June 30, 2008 Lots of fun to play! We are all adult ladies, senior citizens, and we love this game. It is challenging and keeps your mind active.
