Product Description
Naruto and the rest of Squad 7 take on a new mission: bring popular movie star Yukie Fujikaze to the Land of Snow, where they're filming the final scenes of her latest movie.Trouble is, she's even more headstrong than Naruto, and she doesn't want to go! Her reluctance may be connected to what else lies in wait for them; three rogue Snow Ninja and a tyrannical ruler seeking the key to a mysterious treasure...

The first feature based on the popular adventure-comedy Naruto, Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow takes knuckle-headed ninja-in-training Naruto Uzumaki to an unexpected place: a film set. With Sakura, Sasuke, and Kakashi-sensei, he must protect Yukie Fujikaze, the temperamental star of a series of period melodramas. Yukie is rude to her fans (including Naruto), throws tantrums, gets drunk, and mistreats her co-workers. But she doesn't seem to be in any danger until the director decides to shoot her new film in the Land of Snow. In the frozen north, the ninja bodyguards discover Yukie is really Koyuki Kazehana, the long-lost princess of an icebound realm that's been usurped by her evil uncle Doto. Naruto and his friends use exotic jutsu (and plain brute strength) to defeat Doto's minions. The Naruto TV series takes place in a timeless Neverland, and the regular characters feel out of place in a modern setting, making jokes about movie-making. But the film plays like an extended episode of the show, with Naruto's boy-scout-from-the-wrong-side-of-the-tracks determination and perseverance winning the day--as his fans expect. (Unrated, suitable for ages 12 and older: violence, alcohol use) --Charles Solomon

5 out of 5 stars I haven't been a big fan of Naruto, but this particular film is Excellent!   September 28, 2008
My 13-year-old niece warned me my brain would bleed if I watched a Naruto anime movie. OK, so I was bored one night, nothing new to watch on premium cable channels, and I decided to watch this particular Naruto film on one of the kids' channels. Being a Japanese anime lover (my most favorite being "Appleseed,") I had 911 on speed-dial if my eyes started to turn red and blood started to spurt out my ears. But that never happened. I was surprised. "Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow," was excellent in it action sequences, battles, characters, plot, storyline, and voice actors. My niece still says she won't watch it, even though I told her I liked this Naruto film. Maybe, she just doesn't want her older brothers & friends to see her watching Naruto? Anyway, you Naruto fans have a gem here in this anime movie. Don't own it? Buy it now!

4 out of 5 stars Somewhat Satisfiying   June 11, 2008
Naruto the movie was pretty well directed. The characters were out of their normal selves. Like Sakura, she actually did something for once! { I personally don't like her, she never does any work! } The movie reveals some odd things about Kakashi which I never look at him the same way again, but you'll have to watch it to find out. Over all I would buy it, it's not a huge let down, but it's not the greatest movie ever. I would recommend seeing the episodes first so you're not completly lost. 4 out of 5 stars.

3 out of 5 stars Better Than Average But Nothing Spectacular   March 7, 2008

My biggest complaint about anime is that 95% of it is extremely derivative as if it's all drawn from the same general template then modified slightly. Too often they have an assembly line feel to it. Unfortunately Naruto is guilty of this sin with a definite lack of originality about it. I liked the look of the snow ninja's but their boss is a totally unoriginal stock anime villain and the story is rather unremarkable. Overall the animation is fairly good but it's not going to win any awards.

This is my first experience with the very popular Naruto series so I'm reviewing this based on complete ignorance of the characters. As I said earlier it bears more than a passing resemblance to dozens of other series like Dragon Ball Z and Full Metal Alchemist. Naruto himself is a likable character with an indomitable spirit although the voice acting can get grating particularly when he's pontificating about never giving up. Naruto's never say die attitude is his defining characteristic but at some point it can get to be a bit much. After about the dozenth time of him saying he'll never give up I started to get a bit numb to it.

When you get right down to it the showpiece for anime like Naruto is the action and this film has one spectacular fight scene. This battle takes place about halfway through the film and I was hoping for another great fight but the final climax wasn't nearly as exciting. Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow seems to be aimed directly at teenagers and younger which makes it more surprising that a scene later in the movie displays a shocking amount of blood, violence and death.

Naruto will likely appeal to a younger audience who haven't already seen this same story played out dozens of different times in other anime. For older audiences I would suggest the wonderful series Cowboy Beebop or give Paprika or Tekkon Kikreet a try.
