Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
Legions of readers entranced by Twilight are hungry for more and they won't be disappointed. In New Moon, Stephenie Meyer delivers another irresistible combination of romance and suspense with a supernatural twist. The "star-crossed" lovers theme continues as Bella and Edward find themselves facing new obstacles, including a devastating separation, the mysterious appearance of dangerous wolves roaming the forest in Forks, a terrifying threat of revenge from a female vampire and a deliciously sinister encounter with Italy's reigning royal family of vampires, the Volturi. Passionate, riveting, and full of surprising twists and turns, this vampire love saga is well on its way to literary immortality.

5 out of 5 stars Desperate to turn the pages   November 17, 2008
New Moon was a difficult story to read, but one that I enjoyed. Most of the book is spent in anticipation and I found myself wishing I could read faster than I was haha. Stephenie Meyers herself asked that her readers go through the book twice (which I have done), because the middle of the book is lost on the reader as they anticipate what is next. I personally found it more exciting than Twilight, as there was a longer period of action and not as much description on her feelings of Edward (not that I disliked this in Twilight, but it was growing a bit tired). Overall, this was an excellent book and I would highly recommend it!

4 out of 5 stars A Definite Improvement   November 17, 2008
I liked the premise of Twilight, but the writing itself was pretty dismal. I'm pleased to say that Stephenie Meyer has greatly improved with her second novel in the Twilight series, New Moon. There are enough reviews here that go into detail on the story, so I'll just say that if you were put off by the writing in Twilight, give New Moon a chance. It's not great literature, but Stephenie has done a much better job here. I look forward to reading Eclipse.

1 out of 5 stars Incredibly disappointing   November 17, 2008
I'm a big fan of vampires and vampire lore. From the Lost Boys to Ann Rice novels, to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, I can't get enough bloodsuckers. It can be hard to find quality vampire entertainment, but Twilight got great reviews and seemed right up my alley.

I liked Twilight. But I couldn't bring myself to finish New Moon.

I thought that in New Moon we'd see more depth of character in Bella and Edward and a deepening in their feelings for each other, which in the first book seemed like intense lust/curiosity. No, I didn't buy that it was true love from book 1. But I expected it would become true love as the book and characters progressed. I was dreaming. But I was patient. I read through a great deal of Bella's emo whining and selfish behavior in New Moon before I couldn't take it any more and stopped. How can you go on reading a book when you wish the main character would jump off a cliff?

It's really a shame. I thought Stephanie had potential as a writer, but I came to realize that she can't even create a sympathetic main character let alone come up with a creative plot. There is no depth, no innovation. It's just a pathetic fantasy by an uneven author with delusions of grandeur. The next JK Rowling she is NOT.

5 out of 5 stars VERY good sequel!!   November 17, 2008
I was almost afraid to read this book, because I love Twilight so much and didn't want to contend with a weak sequel. No worries, because this book is VERY GOOD!! It sets up a love triangle and there's new creatures. I think Bella's emotional reaction to her situation with Edward is very believable. Twilight creates a romance which is very powerful and intense, so her emotions in New Moon are quite normal.

Despite being so disturbing, I thought the introduction of the darker and complex side of the Vampire world necessary and important. Most importantly - and I wish it had been addressed in Twilight - is the discussion of God and whether or not Vampires have souls. What happens to a Vampire when they die? Can they go to Heaven? Do Vampires believe in God? Edward's fears about his own soul - and Bella's - are central to their story, although only touched upon lightly in a few scattered comments.

This is a good book, a very good sequel. If you liked Twilight, you will probably definitely enjoy New Moon.

5 out of 5 stars New Moon (Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer)   November 17, 2008
This book gives readers a lot of insight to the passion behind character Bella Swan's feelings for Edward Cullen. Many readers describe this book in the series as a slow read, but for those of us that have been in love or are in love, know that this book illusrates so much more than any of the other books combined. You will feel a large range of emotions and you will truely empathize with Bella because Stephanie Meyer does a phenomonal job of expressing the longing and love that she has for her "forever love" Edward.
