3 out of 5 stars could be cheaper!   June 11, 2008
Yeah they could have waived the dang activation fee, that was a waist. it's just a way for them to get a little extra cash out of the customer for no reason.

I find this new 2 year contract stuff garbage as well, I miss the days of 1 year contracts and they gave you all kinds of stuff to make you happy. Now they just line their pockets and forget about the little things about the customer.

Granted I have found AT&T to be better than Sprint/Nextel (so glad I'm not with them anymore).

Ported my number - Had no problems porting my number over from Nextel, The people that I have spoken to on the phone with AT&T so far have been quite nice and easy to understand for the most part (even the ones with accents you can understand well), I find this a great plus. Several times when calling up Nextel I'd get someone who bairly spoke english and wouldn't get the hint that I needed to talk to someone that spoke better english so I could get the help I needed.

HOLD TIMES - AT&T so far has had some pretty low hold times , also they don't don't charge you for calling them for support like several others do. Nextel counts it against your minutes to call them to get things resolved and so on.

Fast useage checking! - all you do is call a specific number as to what you want to check, say like minutes you dial *646# and you get a free text message right to your phone that tells you how many minutes you have left. Same thing goes for balance, Data use (phones with internet access). There is one for payments as well, I haven't used that one yet but it's supposed to take you to a way to do in via an automated system or something like that.

Pretty much I've been quite pleased with the service I've gotten so far, but I still think the plans are over priced. If it wouldn't have been for the fact that I get a nice discount through the company I work for I wouldn't have gotten the plan. It drops the price I pay to a somewhat acceptable rate.

3 out of 5 stars Great Phone Service, Overpriced Data Plans   April 24, 2007

I switched to Cingular from a local carrier due to better coverage, phone selection, and pricing. I ordered through Amazon due to their amazing prices, and received the phones in a few short days. I must say, I have been very happy with the service in my town, with fewer dropped calls, stronger signals, and steady service. Just a couple of weeks ago, we had a bout of very nasty weather that knocked out cell service for most carriers in the area for nearly 8 hours. I never experienced a single moment of downtime.

My only problem has been with Cingular's data pricing. I ordered a Samsung Blackjack for both myself and my wife, and was required to purchase unlimited data plans for both to receive the discounted rate. Not a problem, as I use alot of data anyway. However, the folks at Cingular have determined that the Blackjack SMARTPHONE running Windows Mobile SMARTPHONE Edition is not eligible for their SMARTPHONE data connect plan. Instead, they force you to purchase the PDA plan, which is the exact same, identicle plan, offering the exact same access, features, and bandwidth, for twice the price. Cingular's ridiculously high data pricing will inevitably bite them in the long run. As soon as my 6 month agreement with Amazon to keep the data plans is up, they'll be dropped or reduced.

I don't understand the thinking of some companies these days. It's far better to make smaller profits on more customers than to try to reap a fortune off of a few. It's not shocking at all that so many companies these days go from fortune to failure in such a short time. Take heed, "The New AT&T", people will only tolerate your greed for so long.

4 out of 5 stars Do not understand the consumers and their complaints!!   March 30, 2007

At the FIRST entry point, when selecting a phone/service plan there's a very, very CLEAR and well-placed msg. by Amazon/Wirefly. It's sad that consumers do NOT read the details (which is NOT even in small-font or hidden or anything - but *bang* on top of everything else) which states:

CONDITIONAL $250 Equipment Discount Included: Your price paid includes an Equipment Discount of $250 that has been provided to you in exchange for either activating a new, non-substitute line of service or renewing an existing line of service and your agreement that, for the 181-day period following activation or renewal, you will (1) pay your balance due each month and otherwise maintain your account in good standing, (2) not disconnect this new line of service, (3) not transfer this equipment to another line of service, (4) not transfer or port an existing phone number to this line of service, (5) not change your service rate plan to a service plan with a lower monthly service rate, and (6) not use this line of service to replace an existing line of service. If these conditions are not met, you hereby agree to pay and authorize Wirefly to charge your credit card $250 as reimbursement of this Equipment Discount without need for further approval.

5 out of 5 stars I Had A Good Exp.   January 30, 2007

Unlike many of these reviews that appear to be from dissatisfied customers, I had a very good experience w/ Cingular. I got the product I wanted (Razr Phone) w/ an excellent plan AND they transferred my previous cell # to the new phone w/ relatively little hassle. I am quite happy w/ Cingular all around. Hope that helps someone...

1 out of 5 stars I would not do it again if I had a choice   January 9, 2007

When I was buying a phone I was perhaps handled by some other company. Good luck with talking to customer service after you are on the contract. Be prepared to be on hold and get transferred between departments and waste precious hours of your life for nothing.
