Product Description This easy-to-use standard zoom lens can cover a large zoom area ranging from 24mm wide-angle to 105mm portrait-length telephoto, and its Image Stabilizer Technology steadies camera shake up to three stops. Constructed with one Super-UD glass element and three aspherical lenses, this lens minimizes chromatic aberration and distortion. The result is excellent picture quality, even at wide apertures. Canon's ring-type USM gives silent but quick AF, along with full-time manual focus. Moreover, with dust- and moisture-resistant construction, this is a durable yet sophisticated lens that meets the demands of advanced amateur photographers and professional photographers alike.

A Real Performer and Workhorse of a Lens! November 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The 24-105 f.4 L (my first "L" lens) was just what I was needing to replace my 5 year old Canon 28-135 that was starting to make strange noises. First thing I did wass shoot a series of exposures using my 40D, shooting from a tripod using each of the lens' marked apertures and focal lenghts. My test target was a sheet of newspaper stretched tightly on a wall. I was very impressed with almost every image when viewed at 100%. All I saw that I didn't really like was a little corner softness with the lens wide open at around 70mm. This lens is tack sharp for the most part, but bit heavy and could have been another stop faster considering its hefty price! One nice feature that somehow the optical magicians at Canon has pulled off though is the fact the lens is somehow able to maintain its f.4 maximum aperture throughout its entire focal lenght range! The build quality, auto focusing and image stabilization are quite, quick and first rate.
Quality way below expectation November 28, 2008 During extensive testing of the lens on a Canon Xsi (12MP) I found the lens to be very sharp in the center of the picture on all zoom levels, but the edge of the lens was quite another matter.
All the pictures were taken at 1/40 f4.5 ISO 400. At 24 mm the vignetting (darker corners) is very noticeable. The lens is also quite soft outside the center of the photo. The vignetting improves as the zoom increase, but the softness improves only marginally.
The build quality and feel of this lens is great, but none of those thing matters if the photographic quality of the lens is not up to par. The quality of this lens was so poor that I suspect it was defective. The lens has been returned and I am looking forward to receiving an exchange. Based on all reviews and test, this should be a much better lens than the one I tested.

Amazing Quality November 26, 2008 I am using this lens on a new Canon 50D 15 MP camera. Properly used, it offers perfectly clear and tack sharp photos at very high resolutions. It is smooth to operate and very fast for auto focus. On the minus side, it is somewhat heavy. It works great as an all-purpose lens for almost all situations. I leave it on almost all the time. Highly recommended and easily worth the money.
bought a new and got a used one. November 26, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I received my lens and I noticed that the boxed looked open. As I open the box it had the warrenty card shove in as after thought. Further inspection showed that it had no lens cover and the lens and case was assembled back wrong into the package. The sealing bag laid directly on the front element. It is a shame that this was sent out as a new lens, but Amazon service took the lens back and refunded all of my money. I had bought 3 $1,000 plus L type lens from another mail order group for typically $20-100 more in cost. I went back to them...
Canon 24-105mm L lens November 14, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have taken over 1000 pictures with Canon 24-105 L lens and I must say, it a great product and takes very clear pictures with excellent quality in colors. I have to add that, purchasing my Canon XSI and 24-105mm L lens from Amazon was truely a simple but pleasurable experience.
