The older titles are not in widescreen because in the days when they came out in theatres, the theatre screens were not widescreen. So it is observing their original aspect ratio. Maybe you should do some research before you review something.
I do however not understand why Lion King II made it on this set...I hate the disney sequels.
I agree it blows June 27, 2006 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I own all of these movies already and I can honestly tell you this collection is a rip off. They're asking way too much for so few movies. Now, you add a few more classics and make them all 2-disc special editions, then hell yeah I'll pay $500 for it. But this just isn't worth it, collection set or not.
This set blowwwwws December 30, 2005 23 out of 27 found this review helpful
This set was produced way too early. Disney made too few of these sets (although at the time it was released only 15 percent of Americans had a DVD Player) To further insult Disney fans they put in a stupid sequel? I mean come on, just put in Lion King 1 at least, or a movie that was a little older. This set should be burned, I'm a collector and I don't even think personally that it has any collector value as all the movies are being released (Lady & the Tramp on 2/28/06 and Little Mermaid 10/06) So whatever, wait for the PLATINUM 2 Disc Sets. I still have my 101 Dalmations on Laserdisc :)
Widescreen October 10, 2005 22 out of 25 found this review helpful
I wanted to clarify something I know about Disney widescreen. Some of these features are not being offered in widescreen (ex. Pinocchio) because they were not even originally filmed in widescreen. The first Disney film to use widescreen was Sleeping Beauty, which came out in 1959. Pinocchio came out in 1940.
THIS IS A COLLECTOR SET--NOT FOR THE AVG PERSON!! September 19, 2005 26 out of 37 found this review helpful
The reason this set is called a collector set is because it is just that.. As the description says.. these are the FIRST films Disney put on DVD.. they are in the original format of their time for the purpose of collecting.. for people interested in seeing how the movies evolved.. for having a piece of Disney history. As for price.. it probably costs Disney way more to produce a "LIMITED EDITION" for those few special people interested in such a collection than it takes to produce these for the masses..
The set is not for the average consumer.. it is excellent for what it represents. Disney's first DVD releases .. just the way they were.. for the collector .. and only a limited few available.
