Love these movies. Its wonderful that they are now on DVDs. These movies are classics and I love watching them over and over
We all have a little of Indiana Jones in all of us! June 7, 2008
The reason that these movies are so popular is because there is a little bit of Indiana Jones in all of us. We enjoy the mystery of cloak and dagger, the excitement of exploring new places, the fun of discovery and the adventurous spirit that is deep rooted in all of us.
George Lucas and Stephen Spielberg were able to tap into their own psyche as boys and have done an exceptional job of bringing our dreams to life in the form of a character appropriately named...Indiana Jones!
Harrison Ford is an exceptional actor who brings to the screen exactly the right mix of excitement, entertainment, fun and spiced with a bit of tongue and cheek. The majority of the supporting actors in these series are no slouches either. Karen Allen is the love interest with a bit of an edge in the first movie. Ke Huy Quan is a spunky kid in the second film along with Kate Capshaw as the frightened blonde. In the third movie we get Sean Connery as the tough but loving father.
Although the second film Temple of Doom doesn't quite come up to par (a bit darker than the first and third films...and now the fourth), but it still has some redeeming fun and entertaining scenes. No one can get it right 100% of the time, and George Lucas and Steven Spielberg are no different
With an encyclopedic knowledge about archeology Dr. Jones is always being chosen to find some important artifact as Indiana Jones. In the first movie it is the Ark of the Covenant. In the second he searches for a famous stone full of diamonds and magical powers. And in the third movie Indiana Jones seeks the Holy Grail.

fortunately, i have to agree very much with the reviewer from april 1st 2008. why do people complain??? who knows... now look, i'm pretty sure that when lucas & company, agreed on re-releasing this movie set it had to have been more so for people who either had it stolen, damaged, lost, or never had it to begin with. yeah, maybe he just wants to go after more money, but then again, who really knows what ever his intentions really were??? and yes, not to mention all of the other movies people had re-released on dvd over the years. so, lucas re-released this movie set, SO WHAT??? WHO CARES??? all of these whiners & complainers just need to feel satisfied with what they allready have. and stop worrying about what lucas does or what other people do with it... if somebody is a die hard fan, that's their perrogative. if somebody wants to replace what they use to have because of any of the reasons i allready mentioned, that's their perrogative. if people like lucas just wants to make more money, that's his business..........................

I bought this to update my collection prior to viewing the new film. There's a sweet preview for the new film on the third disc. For some reason this action collection was $10 less expensive than the full screen version of the same films. However comma, the package did come in these small little jewel cases and it almost looks like a knock-off. It's real thin. All three movies fit in this little box that is about the size of a VHS film

I just finished watching this set and I can honestly say that I was blown away by the picture quality for all 3 films.
There's not much you can say about these movies that hasn't been said before. They're beloved and classic adventure films that many other movies (Mummy,Tomb Raider,etc.) have tried to copy but never could. In all honesty though, I must say that I really only prefer Raiders and Temple of Doom. Last Crusade comes off as goofy and lightweight compared to it's predecessors. But even Crusade looks a little better now compared to the new and atrocious Crystal Skull, or Numb Skull as I like to call it. But I won't get started on how laughably bad that one is as I won't be able to stop. I'll save that for it's own dvd review. Raiders is still the best though and provides all the classic moments, characters, and action that make Indiana Jones so great.
I used to watch these movies alot on vhs when I was younger but I never got the last set on dvd. I also hadn't seen them, except on t.v., for quite a while. I took advantage of a sale for this newly released box set and I just can't get over how good they look. I watched them using an upconverting dvd player via HDMI to my HDTV and they almost look like they could be HD DVD's or Blu Ray's. They colors are robust, the edges are sharp, details pop, and the transfers are very clean. I usually inspect movies from a tech point of view as I'm kind of a audio and videophile and none of the transfers ever came across as dirty or grainy. There are maybe few instances when you may see a spec or spot but you have to look for them. I wish all remasters got this kind of treatment.
I listened to them on my home theater and each movie sounded better than the last. Given the fact that they were originally mono 2.0 tracks, I think they did a very good job converting them to 5.1. Raiders came across the weakest of the bunch as Temple and Crusade feature much fuller, bass filled tracks. But considering it's age, it was still pretty good.
I've read that the DD 5.1 tacks are the same from the last box set but that the video is superior here. Some of the extras are different from the sets too. They've added a couple of new ones here but removed alot of the documentary style ones from the last set as it had a separate disc to contain them. They didn't have the room to include them here but I'm wondering why they didn't just add the extras disc from the last set to complete it.
Overall, this is simply a no-brainer must have for any fan of the series. If you already have the last set, you may just be happy to keep it, especially if you like extras. If you don't have either set, you'll select one based on where your priorities are. Either video quality or extras seem to be the only differences. Personally, I'd rather have better audio and video, but that's just me. I don't think you can go wrong no matter which you choose and you'll be happy either way. Recommended.
