5 out of 5 stars I LOVE my Kindle   November 16, 2008

I've had my Kindle since April 08 and I wouldn't trade it for anything! I have no complaints at all. What I really like best is how easy on my eyes reading the Kindle is when I increase the font size. I find that I can read so much faster with no eye strain as I've always had in the past with a regular paperback. I highly recommend purchasing the attachable book light to use when reading in an area that is not well lit. The Kindle Store is wonderful! So many choices. You can try a sample of any book before buying it. Also, many magazines and blogs to choose from for a very reasonable price. And up-to-date news available, too. I LOVE my kindle!!!

5 out of 5 stars I love this unit! Best new techy toy in years!   November 16, 2008

I received my Kindle as a gift and haven't been without it since! I love this unit! Definitely the best techy toy to come our way in years! The main problem I see, is that I really should be getting a commission for all those being sold after someone talks to me about mine! (I'm serious!) I have found it a wonderful answer to wanting something between my PDA & laptop. Still learning to use the Experimental sections.
Savings on book purchases has outweighed the initial cost of unit.
The selection of available books is wonderful, keep adding to the collection though. Would like to see more trade-professional magazines too. I also enjoy the one click purchase, with the security of same.
All we need now is a Kindle that can take the place of my PDA, an organizer for business and personal, like an Outlook program inside, and I'll be set for years to come!

5 out of 5 stars I'm in Kindle Love!   November 16, 2008

Yes - I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my new Kindle! I have been waiting for years for an electronic reading device that made it easy to carry all my books with me in the palm on my hand. This is finally it! I will never buy a traditional book again. The Kindle will revolutionize the publishing world and the way people read. Plus - my reading habit won't kill anymore trees. If reading is your passion, the Kindle will light your fire!

5 out of 5 stars The downside of the Kindle   November 15, 2008

I rarely write Amazon reviews, but I was inspired to by this product. It's hard to add to the countless reviews that have already been put up, so instead I'll just point out the potential "downsides."

Downside #1 --> Since I got used to reading on my Kindle, I no longer want to bother with a real book. At the time I received the Kindle as a (perfect) gift several months ago, I had 7 or 8 unread books on my shelf that were next in line for me to read, and all these months later, they are still unread. I just never felt like picking them up more than I felt like picking up my Kindle. (I'm actually tempted to buy the e-book versions of these books.) Before you get the Kindle and start using it actively, you have no idea how awkward it is to lug around a single book when you can bring along many in one package, especially when you also get your daily newspaper downloaded on it. I think those who will most appreciate the Kindle are people who live in dense urban centers, take public transportation, live on university campuses, frequent cafes, and/or generally spend a good amount of time reading outside the home. Joggers and auto commuters may also enjoy the audio-book feature, though I've never used this myself. That said, I think plenty of folks who don't fit any of the above will also enjoy it.

Downside #2 (a warning to the shy) --> Prepare to become an unofficial Kindle spokesperson as soon as you buy this product and start reading it in public places. The interest level from strangers is AMAZING. I just can't tell you how many times I'm in a cafe or in the subway or walking around, and people stop me to ask about my Kindle. Either they are interested for themselves, or they're telling me how much their wife, husband, brother, sister, friend, or whoever absolutely loves this thing. Speaking for myself, I love talking about the device. The first thing I do is show people a sample page, just so they can see how striking the e-ink technology is. Then, I tell them how easy it is to buy a book, how I don't like reading physical books anymore, yada yada yada. If there were any justice, Amazon would pay me a huge commission. Mr. Bezos, are you there?

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic!   November 15, 2008

I love my Kindle. It's simple, easy to use,
convenient, up-to-date and fun to read on.
I had been looking at purchasing a Kindle for
over a year but was hesitant because I am a bit
technologically challenged. I finally jumped
in and bought one and have had no problems whatsoever
with using it. It always elicits questions from
observers in public places.....what a great way
to meet fellow readers and show it off.
