minimalist tool that gets it done. August 31, 2008 I had been in search of a new Leatherman tool for a couple of weeks when I encountered the Skeletool. I liked the tool as soon as I saw it. I was wanting a smaller Leatherman than my Surge and this was it. The skeletool has just enough functionality for my own needs and is lightweight. The blade is partially serated and is sharp as a razor. The pliers work well and the easy to deploy screw driver is excellent. For those that only need the basics this is the one for you. I like this tool and am glad I found it. The pliers are still on the tight side but that is normal for Leatherman. The only thing I would complain about is the tool does not come with a sheath of any kind. I ended up using an old sheath I had from a previous Leatherman.
indispensible companion August 30, 2008 clips right to my pocket. I never even feel its there. The knife is sharp as all get out. The needlenose pliers and interchangeable scredriver attachment get used all the time. The whole thing looks cool, is solidly built and well designed. I will never be without this thing again. My only issue, and its a minor one, is that sometimes the knife can be hard to get out. I think that may be due to lint or dirt buildup. I just have to use extra pressure every now and then and then I spray it with an air can.
Light and basic August 20, 2008 The Skeletool is small, compact and light. I have found it easy to carry. It has a super comfortable blade, what I use most often. The pliers is precise enough to pull a fingernail; I have often had pliers that do not close tightly at the tip, but this one does. I like the screwdriver set, you can get a "pistol grip" and really apply some force. This is a very good, no nonsense, tool and I highly recommend it.
Dangerous beauty - beware! August 9, 2008 11 out of 22 found this review helpful
As a designer of utilitarian items, I became enamored with the Leatherman Skeletool CX after viewing the pre-release photos, and purchased one shortly after they became available. Although visually very appealing, the Skeletool CX falls short in functionality - the pliers jaws are not spring-loaded and must be opened manually, and it is a chore (albeit a minor one, to switch from the Phillips bit to a slotted one. These shortcomings relegate the usefulness of tool to the "better than nothing category". One might be willing to make the trade-off of reduced functionality for visual appeal, but the design of the tool is also flawed in some dangerous ways. Although being able to open and close the knife blade with one hand is a very useful feature, in order to disengage the locking mechanism, it is necessary to put your thumb in line with the very sharp blade. If one is performing this quickly it is all too easy for the blade to close on part of your thumb. This happened to me recently, and almost completely severed the top 1/4" of my thumb (the second worst cut of my life). Another dangerous situation occurs when using the pliers. There is a pinch-point where the back of the knife blade meets the opposing handle. If the pliers slipped off the object being gripped, the skin of the thumb or palm (depending upon how the pliers are being held, could easily get pinched. Although not as dangerous as the flaw with the closing mechanism of the knife, the resulting injury would no doubt be just as painful. I would strongly advise against buying the Skeletool CX, unless one is only going to look at it and not use it. Leatherman should recall this product and correct the safety shortcomings. I have owned a Gerber 08239 MP800 Legend Multitool for several years. It is typically in and out of its holster several times a day and I have nothing but exemplary remarks to make about its design and utility.
Transformer August 4, 2008 This tool comes right out of the movie "Transformers". Looks cool, nice carbon fiber insert, sharp blade and practical size. The only thing it's missing is a good sheath, which in my opinion, should be included.
