5 out of 5 stars Nuvi 660   February 6, 2007

Unit holds up to Garmin quality. Good map detail and very accurate. Only a few drawbacks. The FM modulator is very poor and FM reciever for Traffic is bulky and did not need to be in the car adapter. The speakers for the voice is on the back of the unit which will face the windshield of the car. This makes hearing the voice in a loud enviroment difficult. On positive notes the unit is very light portable easy to read and very user friendly. Love the extra features like the language translator and the MP3 player. Worth the extra money.

4 out of 5 stars Garmin Nuvi 660 keeps you on track   February 4, 2007

My Garmin NUVI 660 is great, but if they made several small changes I would like it better. (1) When I've selected my destination, I am shown my estimated time of arrival. I would much rather be told how many minutes it will take me to reach my destination. I can of course look at a clock and subtract the time of day from the ETA and see how many minutes it will take, but it would be easier the other way round. (2) The "vent mount" is klutzy, but I have no other reasonable place to put the GPS. (3) The user manual is sketchy and incomplete. I even printed the whole thing out so I could browse, mostly to no avail. For example, the voice programmed in when I got the NUVI was a female voice (Jill) with a fairly heavy "speech impediment," and I thought perhaps a male voice would be better, but I couldn't figure out how to change it (or even if I could change it). I phoned customer service and waited over a half hour, but when I got through they were terrific. The Jack voice is easier to understand. The basic operation is good and rather straightforward and I'm glad that I get lost far less frequently than when I was alone with MapQuest or a paper map, which is so last Century.

The 660 GPS from Garmin is almost everything I was looking for. Two problems have cropped up though, it does not support my Razor phone from Verizon and I have to send it back because it has gone hay-wire. It will not accept customized set ups, it fails to recognize streets as I travel and It does not maintain the correct time. While it worked at first, but after about six uses it went bad. My luck, now I have to send it in to get it fixed. I bought it on Amazon because of time problems and now I have to take the time to box it up and send it in. My advise, buy the extended warranty!

This is a great GPS, and has multiple other functions; i.e. MP3 palyer, travel advisory on traffic so you can avoid the troubled spots, picture player, and the ability to accept SD cards for travel info and diferent languages, and it also acts as a handfree device for a bluetooth cell phone. TM

5 out of 5 stars Not much to complain about   January 31, 2007

I have been using this GPS for more than 3 months. It is my first GPS yet, might be the best one around. Before I decided to purchase it, I did a lot of research online. I also read magazine reviews, finally, narrowed down to Nuvi 350, 360, and 660. In my opinion, if you have tight budget, go for 350. If you really want the Bluetooth, go for 360. Definitely get 660 if you want the best. I even use it to walk to places, without the voice of course.

Pros:
Bright and wide display screen, clear and loud sound, 95% accurate map, useful Bluetooth wireless technology, easy to manipulate, database includes locations like restaurants, shopping centers, banks, gas stations, hotels, attractions without additional fee, short-cut route (saved me 30min one time when I go to upstate NY), MP3 player is fun to use, vehicle suction cup mount is strong (add little water will enhance adhesion), light weight.

Cons:
Few mistakes on routing; traffic report might be inaccurate, poor FM transmitter (very bad quality).

Just a side note, in general, I have never had lost of satellite signals. However, there was one time when I was "walking" in NYC during a heavy raining and windy day, I had no signal. Not until I passed the tunnel back to NJ, the GPS was back on again. Not sure it was because of the weather or because of the bad reception. It only happened once!
