great product December 17, 2007 great for holding your gps unit and does not move around on the dashboard due to the fabric on the bottom. has great grip and isn't all that big/bulky. my only concern is that because it's not bolted to anything, in case of an accident, this could go flying in whatever direction and could cause injury because of the metal pieces and counterweight on the stand, but i guess that'd be the least of your concern in an accident.
Ought to be standard equipment December 17, 2007 I got this product on a "free shipping" basis and it arrived in perfect condition less than 36 hours later (I ordered around midnight). It should be standard equipment at time of purchase of the GPS unit instead of the problematic "lick it and stick it" suction cup mount. The suction cup tends to lose it's grip to your windshield, and it if you do "lick it", it MUST be removed after each use lest it bond to your windshield and require a knife for removal, leaving an ugly little black circle on your windshield, and damaging the "stick to it"ness of the mount. THIS product, on the other hand, lies on your dashboard, does not slip when cornering, is easy to remove and place under your seat (an invaluable security feature, not tempting thieves) for hiding. It is also easier to rearrange or reposition. If your navigator has vision problems, it is easy to grab, look at closely, then put back.
A little pricey at $27+, but worth it, and not $40 like it is at Circuit City.
Great alternative to those wimpy suction cup mounts December 16, 2007 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I'm using this with a Garmin Nuvi and am very happy with it. Moving it back and forth between our family cars is a breeze, and it clings to odd surfaces with no problems (we drive a Toyota Prius and a Honda Fit).
Those suction cup mounts are totally useless on our cars -- they hold for about 20 minutes then fall off. And I don't want to glue anything down permanently. So this is the ideal solution.
Absolutely must buy ! December 15, 2007 I recently bought my Garmin Nuvi 660 and didn't wanted to put in a windshield mount. With windshield mount it was always hard to change options (view) while driving. The Friction mount has been absolutely wonderful to solve this. It allows me to keep the nuvi in a position that i prefer and works beautifully when my wife drives the car. I think this should be made standard with the product. I didn't see any issues of friction mount moving on sides( i drive in NY city a lot). Also, i like the fact that it is easy to store when not in use.
This is a "Must Have" accessory! December 15, 2007 My original problem with the suction cup windshield mount was that it would fall off periodically. That had more to do with me not properly attaching it. Not good when driving and the turns are coming up fast. The friction mount was easier to use, held firmly onto the dashboard (even on sharp turns), and allowed the touch screen to be used without moving (try not doing that when you are driving, though). A bonus of the friction mount was it did not leave any telltale signs that a GPS unit was inside the car. Suction cup rings on the windshield are clues that a potential thief would look for.
