Nice, but make sure you need it. December 11, 2007 It does what it claims, but only by just sitting on the dash of your vehicle. If the dash is flat, such as on a pickup, you're good to go. I attached the regular mount that came with my Nuvi, using Velcro, as the adhesive did not stick properly, due probably to the surface of my dash. You may want to consider the use of Velcro, for this friction mount. You can usually buy it by the inch in a craft or hardware store.
The GPS accessory, you won't be able to leave without. December 11, 2007 I'd never seen this product until my brother paid a visit to my home. Once, I inquired, he told me where I could find it and I was on a mission to purchase one. Due to the fact that I switch the GPS between my wifes car and my own, it provides a very excellent solution. Also, the windshield mounts target your vehicles for theft, I decided long ago not to put one on. This mount is extremely staple and also sits much lower so it doesn't cause the slightest distraction and I absolutely love it.
Thanks, K.F.
You need this if you need to reach December 10, 2007 You need a dash mount if your dash is so deep that suctioning the Garmin to the windshield causes you to stretch excessively while punching in directions. A 2nd advantage is being able to place it directly above the cigarette lighter, thus avoiding a cord dangling down your inside front windshield. The 3rd advantage is the ease of sticking it someplace inconspicuous when leaving the car unattended.
Although this one is more secure than the gravity-dependent mount for the 300 Street Pilot series, it's still not made for drag racing. Moreover, I appreciated the ability to move the Garmin closer to me or further from me as well as remove all traces of it while parking--a feature of the unanchored model. Nevertheless, this model beats suctioning the gps to the windshield. Garmin is now so successful that they may be their own worst enemy--unless they can get a bigger share of the pre-installed navigation equipment market which, thanks to the cheap portable devices, is gaining in popularity among car buyers.
convenient December 10, 2007 The friction mount is much more practical than the suction mount or the glue-on mounts. It can be quickly concealed when leaving the car and there is none of the struggle that's involved in attaching the suction mount. Garmin should supply this unit with the Nuvi instead of those other gadgets.
Excellent Base December 10, 2007 This is the best way to position the Nuvi Navigation system on your dash. This is especially important here in CA where it is illegal to use anything that mounts on the windshield. I have tried other ways to hold the Nuvi Navigation system on the dash but this is by far the best way.
