Not that it really NEEDS another 5-star review, but what the heck.... December 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After our original suction cup mount melted to our windshield during a hot Utah summer (there's still plastic/rubber that we can't get off, btw), my husband told me about a "bean bag" mount a coworker of his has. I wasn't convinced, but hey, I'll try anything once. :)
So, I found the friction mount on Amazon and gave it a shot. Wow! I am impressed. I drive a Chrysler Pacifica. The dash is not made from a particularly smooth surface and is very sloped. The friction mount has done great, even when making tight corners and sudden stops.
If you have a StreetPilot or Nuvi, this is the mount for you!
Works great! December 9, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We quickly tired of having the suction cup mount included with our Garmin Nuvi 360 fall to the dash and looked for alternatives. Saw this one at Best Buy but it seemed overpriced at $40. Checked Amazon, read the positive reviews, and saved over $10. I just purchased two more to give as gifts!
Friction Mount for Garmin Nuvi 650 December 8, 2007 I recently (Nov, 2007) purchased a Garmin Portable Friction Mount for my Nuvi 650. Well, I am happy to report it works just as described. It is easy to use and stays on the dashboard. It is easy to detach so that I can slip it under my seat and take my 650 with me or hide it somewhere. I highly recommend this as a much better alternative to using the suction mount that comes with the unit. Using the friction mount is a way not to leave a mark on my windshield that is a giveaway to potential thieves that I have a gps unit. Also, in some states it is illegal to use a suction mount.
I strongly suggest that Garmin include this mount with the unit instead of the suction mount.
I bought my friction mount on Amazon.com for under $28 with free shipping.
I also highly recommend the Garmin Nuvi 650. I got it at Costco.com for $299.99 plus some fees.
Love it, perfect if you use GPS in multiple cars December 8, 2007 This item works great. I use it daily in my car and regularly take it in rental cars when I travel. Much easier to use than the suction cup on the windshield. The dashmount sits solid and still for me. Only once have I even seen it move when I made a sudden turn. Even then, it only slipped a little and stayed on the dash. If I had any cons: It adds a bit of weight to the carry on bag when flying.
BeanBag December 8, 2007
Got the BeanBag for times that I'm riding in cars other than my own. Rentals, loaners and when I'm a passenger in my wife's car.
It works great and you can find them on the web for at least ten bucks lower than the Garmin selling price.
I learned about the Beanbag while reading GPS forum sites. 98% of the users love their beanbag mount. But, it is kind of big compared to other mounts and harder to hide from criminals when you park your car at the mall.. USE YOUR GARMIN LOCK and take your GPS with you when possible. Never leave it on the mount in the car. (Or, you might be sitting in broken glass on the way home).
