Garmin portable mount December 5, 2007 This product is a must for anyone purchasing a Garmin Nuvi or other compatible model Garmin gps. It provides a much more secure base than the rather flimsy suction cup mount that ships with the units. It also allows you to use the device in more than one vehicle and avoid having to permanently attach the adhesive suction cup base to the dashboard.
Slides easier as it ages December 5, 2007 9 out of 10 found this review helpful
I've had this item for 3 months, and initially was very impressed with it's holding power on the dash. It's not magic - it will come off if you make a sudden turn or floor it from a stop light - but generally it stayed put, even through some *very* curvy roads in West Virginia at a "spirited" pace. Over time, however, it seems to have absorbed the oils or possiblly Armor-All out of the dash (leaving a distinct dry spot on the dash in the shape of the mount), which has impacted it's performance. It still generally stays put, but takes much less aggressive a maneuver to make it move. I am currently trying different cleaners to try to reclaim some of the original grip. As mentioned many times, the ability to remove it from the car, put it on the floor, move it to different cars, etc. is very nice. I would buy it again.
Spectacular December 5, 2007 I have a Honda Civic, and this mount sits perfectly on the Dash, without moving an INCH. It has a smart design, and the GPS can lock easily onto the hook. The hook can even be detatched from the base for easy access. I have read a few negative reviews about how this mount does not stay put on some dashboards. I think that would be a very small minority, as is evident from the overwhelmingly positive reviews.
It just sits there December 4, 2007 Given a choice between a suction-mount and a beanbag, one would go with the suction mount, right?
As counter-intuitive as it is, the suction mount that works so well initially eventually fails -- sending your Garmin to the floor or having you play catch while you're supposed to be paying attention to the road.
This thing, you'd guess, would slip and slide. But, it doesn't Yet again, I'm not taking hair-pin curves at 60. (The "60" refers to the vehicle speed, not my age.) Maybe you could get it to slide. But, you'd really have to work at it.
The only sour note is that it isn't complete in itself -- you've got to take the top off the suction mount and use it on this mount. I guess it would have cut into profits too much to provide this unit with its own attachment.
Rather than clue in everyone that you've got a GPS in the car, just put this unit on the floor when you park.
On an Accord, there is plenty of room for it. If your dashboard has no depth, this isn't your solution.
Does a great job December 4, 2007 I bought this to replace my Garmin Nuvi's windshield mount when it fell apart. It holds the Nuvi firmly in place and is easy to hide out of site when not in use.
