Don't leave it unattended! November 8, 2008 1 out of 4 found this review helpful
You would think that a bread machine with a timer option is meant to work without being watched every minute, but not this one. The first time I used it, it jumped off the counter and crashed to the floor, broke and is now useless. I can only imagine that it jumped around while it was kneading the dough (unlike the last machine I had, this one has only one paddle) and worked its way over the edge of counter. What poor engineering!
best of 3 bread makers I've used. November 5, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Several years ago we got a Regal; it was pretty good but when the pan wore out in a couple years we had to replace it. Next was a Sunbeam of modest price but high rating. The Sunbeam took several months to learn how to use then worked ok for several years. Like the Regal, when the Sunbeam pan died we had to replace the whole unit. In our current and growing need to be more green this seems terribly wasteful. So after reading lots of reviews on Amazon and several other websites we settled on the Panasonic SD-YD250. Availability of replacement parts, strong reviews for reliability, durability, moderate price, and quietness helped us decide. While we've only had the unit for a couple weeks I am VERY pleased. This has been the easiest bread maker to learn to use (maybe due to years of experience) and produces the best bread ever - springy, fine textured and chewy crust. With 2 growing boys we are very glad for the very large loaf size. We will probably be making a loaf every 2-3 days. Where we live this saves us probably $2-$3 per loaf vs store bread and we know what is in it. The unit is quiet. The whole bread making cycle is 1-2 hours longer than with our previous machines but with the large loaf and very good quality, its worth the wait - I just have to plan ahead better. I thank the reviewer who alerted me to increasing the yeast used - I'm using 2tsp for Xlarge loaves. I've only made 3 loaves but they have been excellent and after the first loaf I didn't follow the recipe exactly - still with great success. Hope this one lasts as long as it has for other posters here. Hope parts stay available. I'd recommend this to a friend for sure.
Owned For Years and Still Goin Strong November 1, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I've owned this product for 4-5 years. I have never had a bad loaf come from this machine. I gave all my other bread machines to friends in favor of this one. My favorite feature is the yeast dispenser , I think that's the key to the bread always coming out just right.
This is a 10 star product and was a worthy purchase.
Great Buy!!! November 1, 2008 I was replacing a bread maker that did not make a "horizontal loaf", and was thrilled to find this machine! It has great features, was reasonably priced, and makes a beautiful, consistent loaf every time, with little to no effort!
Underpowered October 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this bread machine and after making 3 100% whole wheat loaves I had to send it back because it just seemed to underpowered to handle the 1.5 pound dough. I really wanted to like this machine but was disappointed. I tried 3 different recipes to make sure it wasn't the recipe and also tried 2 different types of whole wheat flour. Oh well. I ordered the book "Artisan Bread in Five Minutes a Day" from Amazon and I am very happy with the bread that can be made using this fast/easy method. Thanks.
