 I Buy Tons of Mags but I READ this one first February 7, 2002

I buy very expensive, specialized magazines, many from the UK, such as Empire, Internet, .net, What Digital Camera. Then there are the art magazines I buy galore, also expensive. However, month after month, there is no other magazine that I read cover to cover, and right away at that, other than this one. This is The Magazine for me. I buy the "New Yorker" too but I must confess to being more of a closet low brow because it takes me awhile to get to that one. I start in VF, probably like everyone else, with Dominck Dunne's diary and his coverage of the latest trials. He covers just about every high profile murder case going on and is on the inside track with everyone. Then I typically move onto the cover story if it is someone who interests me and it usually is. There are at least 4 or 5 other must-read articles and some of the best are the crime ones. The photography is gorgeous. Annie Leibovitz does most of it but other big names are here as well. The very best dirt on absolutely everyone is here. If you aren't reading VF, you are really missing out, period.

Vanity Fair is the best magazine I've picked up in years. The writers are skilled and seasoned; and, the editors do a terrific job of choosing, arranging, and policing grammar. The variety of subject matter is pleasing. Topics are presented in a respectful, yet casual manner. I feel as though I'm having a conversation with the writer. Vanity Fair writers and editors have a way of predicting my responses, and addressing them in the order of my thoughts. I do not feel coerced or hoodwinked as I read through the magazine. The photos are perfect. We do not live in a pore-less society. I'm going to treat myself to a subscribtion of this substantial information, presented in elegant and quality packaging. No fluff in Vanity Fair

Vanity Fair is one of the best magazines out there for well written articles. It has interesting articles on celebrities and some current events. The photos are great as well as the layout. My husband and I both love this magazine.

Vanity Fair is one of my favorite magazines. I admire its bravery in its approach to journalism. A mixture of hard-hitting and tabloid writing, I must admit that it takes a lot of courage to tell it like it is -- to the dismay of some of the celebrities who agree to be interviewed for this magazine. It certainly pays off if they're looking for some serious publicity stunts (take Demi Moore for example). As a journalist, I subscribe to this magazine for inspiration. It takes a lot of guts to publish a no-holds-barred magazine like this one!

Vanity Fair is head and shoulders above "People" magazine. It targets those uppty folks who won't read those fashion rags, but still want to know about the rich and famous. Sometimes its really good reading but mostly I could care less. Exception is the murder and mayhem from the expose of the Show jumping (horses) circuit. (Re-written into the book "Hot Blood", which if you missed it is a great read into the greed of rich people. You'd have thought that there was such a thing as so much money you wouldn't have to cheat insurance companies but I guess I didn't factor in the cost of a top rated jumping horse.) The covers have in the past been very cutting edge. Anyone remeber the issue with Demi Moore in full body paint and a minor shadow? But who is dating who on the movie sets is not what I care about. If you do, get this one over the others.
