Real Simple February 17, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I just LOVE this magazine. It is full of useful tips that have very little to do with sex and fashion (although their fashion section is actually quite helpful and realistic). I read it from cover to cover twice each month and pull out all the articles I want to keep. I actually use the recipes (all very good) and the tips on organization give me great ideas for my own home. $27.00 well spent!
only mag I bother to subscribe to. February 15, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I love this magazine so much. It is beautifully shot and the stories are relavent. I like how in the back they have pull out cards with some of the key articles from the magazine. It saves me from ripping out pages.
I also like that you have online access with additional information as well.
The recipes in this magazine really are simple. The financial advice is rather solid. I don't buy into the organizational info since it usually does require making purchases of items to further clutter my home.
Real Simple is merely advertising disquised as a magazine February 12, 2008 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought this magazine expecting to collect some tips on my journey to simpledom and minimalism. How disappointed I was to find that it's page after page after page of ads intended to propel the reader to buy more unecessary clutter. I found nothing inside that I thought was 'simple', except the articles that lacked depth and substance. Save your money.
For Real, Not Simple, People December 10, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I've read the other reviews denouncing the magazine as vapid and consumeristic. The Economist it is not, nor does it purport to be! If you enjoy great layout, graphic design, decorating, wearable fashion, and preparable recipes, Real Simple is for you. As for the product suggestions not being affordable: the interior design sections feature items from Ikea; fashion from Target; and food obtainable from your neighborhood grocery store. The magazine successfully recreates lifestyles featured in higher-end publications, and is comparable to Martha Stewart's "Living" and "Blueprint," and "Lucky" and "Domino."
There's no "there" there. December 3, 2007 7 out of 9 found this review helpful
This magazine is great, once. After that, I'm kind of left wondering who subscribes to get the same thing, month after month. The photography and styling are beautiful, but the articles are superficial and many of the ideas, silly. For example, is it really a time or energy saver to take a photo of your shoes and attach it to the outside of the shoebox, rather than to take a Sharpie and write "blue suede flats" on it? How many times can you reorganize your closets/bathrooms or buy new storage containers? I find, when I've read Real Simple, that I come away with a tip or two per issue, maybe. It's fun for a mindless half-hour in the waiting room at the doctor's office. Nothing worth a year's subscription.
