I know on the newer cars they now have electric outlets. Unfortunately my car doesn't.So, the inverter acts as your power source. For radios, laptop computer,fans, basically anything under 5amps. I even keep my battery charged with a trickle down solar panel so it never will run down. The battery runs at peak performance.

I bought this for our Christmas trip to Iowa from Texas- 1100 miles one way in our van with our 10 year old. This inverter powered the TV and PS2, not one problem there and back (@20 hours each way). I was left wondering... WHY DIDN'T WE BUY ONE OF THESE SOONER? Some of the best money I have ever spent. Awesome!! And for the quality, you cannot beat the price.

I am satisfied with the XANTREX, I used it and it worked great.
I didn't give it 5 stars because I am not sure how accurate is it's battery low - warning system. I had only one laptop, with an external hard drive connected and at times it started beepingm, even if I was driving. I had to turn it off, run on battery for a while, then start it again.

Been using this converter for close to 2 years now. I've used it for powering my laptop charger and cell phone charger with no problems. It's small and can be stored under the car seat. Excellent value!

used this to power my laptop on an 11 hour ride, This unit and my pickup extended the reach of my leaf blower past the extention cord...
