Basic Scanner/Reader April 28, 2008 The scanner works. Easy to use. Instructions could be clearer, with better explanation of the terms used in the manual.
Handy and does the job April 27, 2008 little portable device which you can keep in the car glove box and does a neat job. You can read the codes and look up with the included book. Saves you $$$ as you don;t need to goto the car dealer and pay by the hour.
Great tool for average car owner. April 27, 2008 I bought this product because the Service Engine in my car was on and I wanted to know what it was triggering it or if it could be just a bad reading in the car's computer. I know I could take the car to Autozone or some other autopart stores and get the code read, but in most locations they do not erase the code. You can erase the code by disconnecting the battery for ~5 minutes but also radio's memory is erased and you need to reprogram the preset stations.
This tool gives you an easy way to read the code that is triggering the check engine light and erase the code. This tools does not have most of the extra features that oher more expensive readers have, but for a normal/average car owner this tools is perfect. The manual gives you the translation of the code to what it could be causing it, but once you have the code, you can search for it in the internet and read what other people did to fix the problem (eiher you do it or take the car to a dealer or somewhere else to have it fixed).
If you use this tool once and you save the trip to the dealer, pretty much you already paid for it.
Joey Likes It ! April 25, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
This worked pretty well to suit my needs. I was getting the "engine light" warning message on my 1997 Camry. I fully suspected that it was because I had probably failed to tighten my gas cap the full three(3) clicks required for that model car (this is real hard to admit, as I had given my wife perfect hell for doing the same thing several years ago when it ended up costing me about $100 to get the stupid thing checked/shut-off!). So, in any event, I found this little pocketscan unit to be a great alternative to paying another $100-150 to a toyota garage to shut the damn light off again. And it worked! It gave me the code of what the problem was, then gave me the option to delete the message .... which I did. So, it works great! I must say, however, there was one minor problem. Once you have mated the male connector piece of the code reader to the female connector (under the dash), it is REALLY a bear to get them apart again after you have finished the job. The pieces really do get "hob-knobbed" if you know what I mean. I ended up having to use a small jeweler's screwdriver to get down in between the snap-lock to separate them and then disconnect them (which was a real pain working down under the dash). I think if I have to use the unit again, I might just file away the little edge on the connect area of the code reader part that locks the pieces together. Otherwise, great little unit!
Functional and easy to use. Great price April 18, 2008 I am very pleased with this purchase. It is easy to operate and it removed recurring code on my Nissan Altima. So now i don't have to shell $$ just to know what the problem is with my car.
