This is a relabeled Vector Charger from China/Junk May 9, 2008 4 out of 8 found this review helpful
Did you get a load of that voltage gauge reading? Because there isn't one. It won't charge a dead battery, because it has to have feed back to work. F01, is all you get. You have no clue what state the battery is in. What the heck is that crap. You have to roll it over and look on the back to see what the code means. Failed to charge, and other worthless nonsense. Talk about a worthless box of junk. No one knows what their talking about saying it will charge a dead battery. The charger will give you a code saying replace battery. So I haul the battery to Interstate battery to have them replace it. They will also tell you this charger does not take a stone dead battery to any level. They charged the battery to full level which more than proved a point.
You want a real Charger, stick with Schumacher Types Like SSC-1000A Automatic Speed Battery Charger. I love this guy. He tells you everything. I've been in the Auto Trade for more than 40 years, and you need the facts in your face. I purchase roughly 1200.00 worth of batteries a year. I'll spend an hour taking this guy on tour to keep all batteries at peak. And it's compact. Not like that bowling bag worthless thing I purchased. I have several chargers over the years, and the Schumacher is the first choice for the mission.
Someone at Black&Decker really messed up this time. Take a look at Vector; http://www.amazon.com/Vector-Smart-Battery-Charger-Engine/dp/B000LNRAOU/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1210336034&sr=1-9
Notice how Amazon doesn't let you examine photo up close. Busted.
A Great Charger February 8, 2008 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is an excellent product that seems to do exactly what it is supposed to do and it does it well. Sturdy and easy to handle do to the relatively light weight (compare the weight of this charger to ones with the more conventional transformer design). On the 40 Amp setting it rapidly charged my trailer batteries without breaking a sweat and it didn't seem to mind running on generator power (even though there is a microprocessor inside). The User interface may seem a little odd but it's easy to get used to and the digital display is nice. Nice built-in pocket too for storing the power cord and charging "clips". I'm happy I returned the 20 Amp iron-heavy charger I had bought that wasn't doing the job and discovered and bought this one. Shop around, though, the price really varies.
This is a charger, not a "jump start" device January 30, 2008 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
An earlier review by Carolyn incorrectly stated that this device can start your vehicle when stranded on the roadside. It does not. That review was intended for a "jump start" device. This battery charger is to recharge weak batteries with the supplied power cord plugged into a 120 volt outlet. The only normal way this device would be helpful for someone on the road is if a 120 volt gasoline generator was available. Search for a "jumpstart" auxilary battery device if you seek a roadside assistance device to start your stranded vehicle.
Only can be used when plugged in! January 14, 2008 22 out of 43 found this review helpful
It must be made clear to buyers that this unit can only be used when plugged into an outlet. I am not knowledgeable about car batteries or cars for that matter...I am having a problem with my car's electrical system and the battery gets drained. Based on a review which read that the person felt safe with her teen on the road as long as this device was in the car, I purchased it. I kept reading the instructions trying to find out how to charge up the battery charger so I could take it outside to jump start my car. After having it in the plug for 5 hours, I took it outside to start my car and wondered why nothing was working. I called Black & Decker this morning and they told me that the VEC1093DBD is a battery charger and even though it can jump start a car, it must be plugged in to operate. So it doesn't do what I need, and there was no way for me to know that from reading the description of the product and the reviews which inferred jump starting a vehicle in a parking lot or along a highway. So yeah, maybe I am dense about cars, but I can read...a better product description would have helped me make a better choice!
B&D = Awesome !! November 30, 2007 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
My Car was Garaged Too Long for 3 weeks and the Battery Died.. The B&D Charged the Battery up No Problems..and now I keep it on 4 Amps Maintenance Mode when I'm away for more than a week .. I highly Recommend
