Unit doesn't work, complex instructions March 6, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I had a preconception that Black and Decker quality is not good. This item did not change that perception. 1st of all, the instruction book is too long. Second, mine never worked. It doesn't do any of the things the instruction book says it should do. It doesn't beep when it is supposed to (or at any other time), it doesn't flash its LEDs...nothing.
My dad used to say that Black and Decker quality was missing. This is the first B&D product I've purchased in perhaps 20 years or more. They didn't do themselves any favors with me having the thing not work right from the get-go. PLUS, my car is out in the driveway with a dead battery and the thing is not of any use to help me.
Handy Gadget February 25, 2008 2 out of 4 found this review helpful
I used the Battery Booster this winter and it worked like it should The battery was totally flat It took about 3minutes :) to charge with this gadget.
It will not help if the battery is beyond recovery. I had to buy a new battery later the same week.
Not worth the trouble, and highly unlikely it will get you out of trouble February 23, 2008 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
Please do not buy this product. I've never before reviewed a product but this one has wasted so much of my time that I had to comment. First, it was a gift (my poor father bought three of them). He charged them initially, and without ever having used it in six months, I tried to recharge it (it squealed continuously--see other reviewers). I called and got a replacement. Charged it. Today, I had a neighbor with a dead battery. Ah, I thought, to the rescue. Plugged it into the cigarette lighter and a piercing beep, beep, beep. Followed instructions and repeated process. No avail.
I placed the owner's car on my plug in the wall charger and it started within the hour--so I know the battery wasn't bad or completely drained. If you have one of these in your trunk and think you'll ever really need it, I'd search for something that reliably works.
Broken out of the box - cheaply built February 23, 2008 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
This product was broken out of the box as it wouldn't charge and just produced an endless series of annoying beeps. I see from other reviews and many of them don't work out of the box. I would avoid this product since so many never work right, I would wonder how long it would last even if it did work. I wish I had read the reviews before purchasing as I could have saved myself the hassle of returning it. I have always thought of Black and Decker as being a decent brand but I guess they've slipped into being just a hollow brand for cheap imports these days, too bad.
Won't charge - defective and needed in emergency February 22, 2008 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I picked this up because my truck wouldn't start due to cold weather and I killed the battery trying to get it to turn over. I absolutely needed this product to work so I wouldn't miss another day of work (where I'm at it's drive in or nothing). Had the same problem as a lot of folks, and on the B&D website the only help in their 'FAQ' said to just turn it on and off a bunch of times til it started charging. I'm taking this back tomorrow and will never recommend this product line (made by Vector for B&D) to anyone, ever.
