Also Great Live on SNL 09/27/2008 September 29, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I have enjoyed this CD for quite some time but admit I'm even more impressed now that I caught her performing live on the 09/27/2008 episode of Saturday Night Live. She perfomred "Mercy" and "Stepping Stone" and she was great. The best live performer they've had on in a while. Looking forward to hearing whatever she does next too. I'm enjoying the retro vibe she and Adele and Joss Stone have brought back around. "Stepping Stone" is my favorite and reminds me of those Petula Clark and Dionne Warwick albums my Mom & Dad used to play. Very nice.
Ronnie Spector ??? September 28, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I somehow pictured her sitting on her bedroom floor- alone - with a kid's phono and a pile of Ronnettes records., when I first heard her.
( think " Be My Little Babaaaaaaayyy " ..... you can hear Ronnie in her voice ).
Spectacular Album September 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this album sooo much. I usualy don't write reviews, but this is worth letting everyone know, that it is worth it. I listen to it all the time. I even have one @ work that I listen to during the daytime.
Love it Judy Collinsville, MS

Blues, Pop, Soul - This girl's got it ALL! September 17, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
Simply tremendous talent and a very addictive sound. Along with Adele's "19", this album has been in heavy rotation for me for months, and the more the listen to it, the more I LOVE it. At first I was attracted to just a handful of songs ("Rockferry", "Warwick Avenue", "Syrup and Honey" and the radio-ready hit "Mercy"), but now I love about 90% of the songs. While most of the songs discuss heartbreak and breaking up, each song has a distinct personality that speaks to Duffy's versatility. "Rockferry" starts out quietly and builds to this tremendous fervor that takes your breath away. "Syrup and Honey" is one of the sexiest stripped-down blues songs I've ever heard. "Serious" sounds like a '60s poppy girl band song, but has a great feminist message (as does "Stepping Stone"). I only wish there were more songs on the album so it would last longer. Hopefully she puts out another album soon!
