5 out of 5 stars Works like a charm   September 1, 2008
I've been using this grill for 6 years now and couldn't be happier. I used 1lb propane tanks for the first 3 or 4 years then broke down and purchased the connector line and a medium size refillable propane tank. The piezo spark unit worked very well for the first 3 or so years. It still sparks, but I can't seem to get it positioned right to enable it to ignite the gas. I've had no problems using a long handled butane starter though. After 3 or 4 years, I had to replace the flavorizer bar due to rust - got it from Amazon without problem. Everything else is stock. As others have said, it does get hotter on the side furthest from the valve, but I use that to my advantage. I regularly cook steaks, hamburgers, salmon (in foil), flank steak, hotdogs and sausages. It can easily handle two steaks, and four burgers, dogs, sausages, etc., but not more than that because of the heat distribution issue. The cooler end is great for toasting buns or vegies. After 6 years, the grill is still extremely dependable.

5 out of 5 stars It DOES use standar 1LB tank   August 9, 2008
Whatever the specs say, this unit DOES have a standard mini propane connector so you can use a Coleman-type 1-LB cannister OR an adapter hose to connect to a standard tank. And the grill cooks GREAT! It sears the meat without over cooking and easily burns off the residue after you're done. I woulda gave it a 4 but I added 1 for this - it COOLS off in 15 minutes after killing the gas so you can put it way quick. For that I gave it a FIVE!

5 out of 5 stars Perfect Small Grill   August 4, 2008
This is our second one and we love it. No fooling with matches; just push the button to light. It grills perfectly. Just as good as my large built in gas grill in my winter home. I would definetly recommend this grill to anyone who has a limited area, but likes to grill.

3 out of 5 stars Higher btu output preferred   August 4, 2008
Per other reveiws, seems to generate most heat on end opposite regulator.
Recommend you shift what you're cooking from far end to then move to middle and finally to regulator end.

Highly recommend keeping the lid on during cooking process (lose too much heat by lifting lid too often).

Question: Not sure if most have been satisfied with BTU output. Perhaps something wrong with my regulator (call customer service and told it was nothing wrong...just low output due to being a portable unit). However, found out that once you have it on HIGH I can push down on the knob and I get a BTU "boost"...when grilling meat I find this helpful as if gives the meat a slight charred finish.

You may also want to consider picking up a hose attachment and a mini refillable propane tank. You can also pick up a "tree" (i.e. Coleman or Primus) that will allow you to hook up a propane lantern and a propane stove. Basically you create a nice kitchen set up.

4 out of 5 stars Worked pretty well   August 4, 2008
We bought the grill to take with us on vacation earlier in the summer. It has a nice, easy to transport set-up, with folding legs that seem like they will be rickety, but turn out to be pretty stable. Putting the grill together the first time took about a half an hour.

Overall, the food came out well when using this grill and it was compact and easy to handle. The only complaints are that it is is hard to tell that the fire has ignited when first turning it on (I was always worried that the gas was just coming out and creating a hazard, and it is hard to see through the little viewer hole made for that purpose) and that it did not ever get quite as hot as I would have thought, increasing the cooking time and changing cooking strategies. Otherwise, no other complaints. We'll see how well it holds up to multiple uses.
