The classic grill, improved February 11, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
The classic Weber grill, improved. Weber's been making this grill in one version or another forever. There's a good reason - it's nearly perfect. Unlike square grills, the shape lends itself to even heat distribution for even cooking. Temperature control is easy with the top and bottom adjustable vents. Emptying the ashes is painless thanks to the ash catcher. Just move the bottom vent handle back and forth a couple of times to dump the ashes through the vent holes, then rotate the ash catcher handle a little to remove. Disposal is quick and mess-free. It's the best cooking charcoal grill out there, but you can add accessories like the rotisserie, top slide aside, tool holder, work table, condiment tray, indirect cooking baskets, etc... you get the idea.

Weber does it again! Awesome product. Everything my husband wanted. We have a gas grill at home for the quick BBQ nights but prefer the charcoal in the Weber most other times. We also own a Baby Q which we take camping. Great products!
The King of Charcoal grills December 2, 2007 Easy to assemble, though I will admit that one of the wheels keeps popping off the side when i roll it around my patio. But then again, i rarely have to move the grill so it's not like it's a big deal. The grill is large and easy to clean and the thing that stands out most with this grill is the ash-catching compartment on the bottom. Plus my steaks taste way better using this thing compared to my previous grill which used propane
Reliable, easy to use, consistent November 19, 2007 4 out of 4 found this review helpful
I have used this grill for one season with great results. The lower and upper vents are easy to adjust and do their job well. The lower vent adjustment spins pusher blades that send ash through the vents to the holder below, meaning you only have to handle the ash when the holder fills up. I definitely recommend the Gold model over the Silver, as small bits of hot coal fall through the vent during cooking. I would not want bare coals on the exposed, shallow tray in the Silver. In the Gold, they stay safely contained in the bin - and seem to continue contributing some heat, even though they're no longer in the cooking chamber. I have not yet had reason to miss an adjustable grill - it's easy enough to pile the coals such that there are hotter and less hot regions on the grill. When done cooking, it's easy to let the coals carbonize any residue on the grill, give the grill a scrub, and close the vents. The coals then go out, and can be reused. I highly recommend a Weber chimney starter and lump charcoal. One sheet of newspaper partially soaked in olive oil starts the coals nicely (it takes about 35 min to heat up a full Chimney of charcoal. I also recommend the Weber accessories for hanging tools on the side of the grill. The lid can still be closed tightly with these accessories attached, though they can come off if jostled. Don't waste your money on the lid-holder attachment - the lid has a little hook on the inside that lets it hang on the side of the grill. Negatives: The plastic handles are of good quality, but can get uncomfortably warm, and will melt if they get very hot (ie: unshielded and directly over hot coals). The rack between the wheels is sturdy enough, and usable, but minimal - there's just enough room to hold the chimney starter - and it's a bit awkward (the legs tend to get in the way). There's no place to store charcoal - if you can swing the extra cash and have the deck space, give the Platinum model a look. Overall, great value and excellent performer.
Owned one for 5+ years November 6, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Anyone that is hesitating needs to go ahead and get it. If you are into grilling this grill does an excellent job. When the one I have wears out I will get another, but I don't expect that to be anytime soon and I grill several times a week. The only part I've had to replace on it was the coal grate and that was just this past spring after 5 years. The meals I have cooked on this grill have to number in the 500+ range.
