I love this product. The only complaint I have is that the batteries run out too quickly.
I'm impressed July 25, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
This thing really works - it has the power, for 15-20 minutes, to cut weeds and heavy grass like a small gas powered trimmer. It also has the power to edge pretty well and the rotating head really makes it easy.
It's a little pricey. I got it as a gift, don't know if I would have paid the price my self.
If you have a small lawn and occasionally need to clean up some weeds - buy it.
18 Volt Cordless String Trimmer/Edger July 24, 2005 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Lighter then our last trimmer (Ryobi) and this one edges too.Lots of power for a Texas yard. Did all of it on one charge. Gave us an extra battery so we can always get the job done. Great item. Don't forget to get refills on the string at the same time to save on shipping and always have a back up.Wonderful price and product.
Go Grass Hog! July 21, 2005 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
Are you tired of your weedeater lopping off the tops of your flowers, no matter how careful you are? Or worse yet, cutting your favorite heirloom flush with the ground? Worry no more, the Grass Hog is here. The protective shield is really effective in protecting those areas where a close, clean cut is needed to highlight a particular bloom. The automatic line feed means no more ground thumping, though I did find pieces of line around the yard that evidently were ejected for reasons I do not quite understand. The lightness of the unit makes it easy to hold, and estimated battery time is about 20 minutes for my particular yard. That is not enough time to finish my work, so the other battery is always charged and ready. The purchase of another charger+battery will make this an extremely effective tool for completing the job in one session. Noise level is extremely low compared to a gas weedeater, but I still wear earplugs. Highly recommended.
Second season, still fine June 5, 2005 20 out of 20 found this review helpful
I have a medium-size suburban house sitting on about half an acre. No palace, mind you, but probably medium-average.
This trimmer is enough to keep the lawns looking neater than I've ever been able to get them.
In the past year I've used this to: -keep the lawn edge trimmed along all walkways -occasionally trim around some areas my lawnmower can't reach and -slice up weeds around my trees that I'm too lazy to pull out by hand.
Note I did NOT say "spend hours trimming my gigantic estate every other week or so." For me, outside time is best spent at golf.
This is a great complement to the cordless blower in this family (the batteries are interchangeable).
Big plusses: light and simple to use; enough battery power for small jobs (get a gas-powered trimmer if you've got big jobs and hate cords). Cord rarely jams and lasts through about ten uses for me, which is about half the season here in upstate New York.
Minuses: Battery life short (figure about 10-12 minutes per battery, so don't expect to harvest your wheat crop with this baby); no cost-effective way to buy a charging station and extra batteries.
Be CAREFUL! This is does NOT necessarily use the same battery as B&D Firestorm products. Some Firestorm batteries are the wrong size and voltage. Others have a stub which fits into the handle; the compatible B&D 18v products look like a big fat black Advil tablet (sort of).
I will probably buy most of the B&D products that are compatible, eventually. They seem to work for me.
