Nothing But Trouble September 16, 2008 I have had nothing but trouble with this cordless B&D mower. I will never buy another one. (We'd had a corded one in the past that worked great. But when we moved into a home with a larger yard, we decided to go cordless for convenience. Big mistake.)
We followed every instruction in the Booklet that came with it and 2 chargers later (yes, chargERs not charges) I'm finally returning it. When it wouldn't hold a charge from the charger it came with, I assumed the charger itself was bad, so we ordered a replacement charger direct from Black & Decker. It came, we plugged it in, it charged, we mowed. We plugged it in again to recharge for next time - nothing. A second charger stopped working. (And we tried it on various outlets to be sure it wasn't a faulty outlet.) We're fed up. The lawn looks awful. We're going back to gas-powered mowers. *sigh*
If you do decide to buy one of these, buy it locally so you can return it more easily should it come to that. Returning such a large item to Amazon is a royal pain.
Love Using this Mower! September 16, 2008 The best thing about this mower is how easy it is to turn on -- no pulling!! If someone comes outside to talk to you when you are mowing, you just stop the mower without fear that you'll never get it started again. Does a very good but not fantastic cutting job. Easy to change grass height. Mows my whole medium size yard without needing to be recharged. Quieter than gas mowers. No buying, storing or dealing with gas. Very happy. Huge improvement.
Pleased once again. September 15, 2008 Having owned a Black & Decker Cordless Electric prior to my purchase of this one, my only question was what improvements may have been made. I can say without reservation that it certainly meets my needs. You can't mow an entire acre of high grass on one charge, but for my half-acre of grass, it's perfect. No hassles with gas, oil, tune-ups, filter cleanings...and it's simple to keep clean. Quiet, efficient, plenty of power, safe and convenient. I get just about 45 to 60 minutes of mowing out of the mower and I cut the grass once a week. Nice cut too. Simple to adjust. It makes the whole chore just a little bit more enjoyable. Great product. Once you own one, you won't go back. But again, it's not for great big lawns unless you mow in stages.
As good as advertised, and lovin it! September 15, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Well if you're reading this review then you're probably like me and want to do your homework before taking the leap in purchasing an electric mower. I was skeptical after reading many a review on this site and others but the lawn was getting long and I finally bit the bullet and went for it. Here's an honest break down of what I love, like, and can see room for improvement on my Black & Decker Cordless mower:
Top 5 Pros: 1. I love how easy it is to crank this baby up just insert the key pull lever and away we go!!! 2. I love how easy it is to push this thing I almost forgot it's not self-propelled, okay maybe I'm exagerrating a little but honestly it's much lighter than I expected and very manuverable. 3. No more oil, filter, or anything changes..Hooray!!! 4. I've opted to go bagless and operate on my mulch setting and it's amazing how much less dust this thing kicks up compared to my old gas guzzler, practically dust-free(coming from a guy who has patches of dirt with little grass in some areas)which translates to a much cleaner mowing experience and my lungs are already thanking me. 5. Last but not least NO MORE $4/GAL OF GAS TO BUY FOR MY MOWER EVER!!!!
Cons: 1. Slightly damaged in shipping. Now before you change your mind and think I don't want to even worry about this and go some other route, hear me out. The box it was shipped in was in pretty bad shape and yes the mower hand a few scrapes and scrathes (which made me less than pleased at first glance). The good news is Amazon gave me the option to send it back for a refund or take a discount. I decided to make sure it would operate properly and after a thorough investigation I opted for the discount.
2. Defintely doesn't cover up 1/3 of an acre. Well maybe it does if you can cut 1/3 of an acre in less than 45-50 minutes b/c that's exactly how long a full charge will last you. I suppose if I ran the whole time this would be possible but for all practical purposes it seems to me that this bad boy will get you through roughly a 1/5 acre sized lot in one go and that's pushing it. I simply cut my front one day and the back the next so I didn't really see this as a con, but from some I guess this might be a turnoff.
3. Has trouble with very thick weeds, but other than that it did a comparable job to my 5.5 hp gas mower.
Well I guess that's about all you need to know to make an informed decision on going electric. Good luck on your decision and happy mowing!!!
Mower needs more power September 15, 2008 We are very satisfied with the Black & Decker cordless electric mulching lawn mower, but we are disappointed that it does not have as much power for picking up loose leaves, etc., as previous gas-powered mowers have had. It is very easy to store because the handle folds down, but it is every bit as difficult to push as our hand mower (grass cutter). It is not self-propelled, so don't expect it to make your life too much easier.
