Perfect Tape For The Shop August 16, 2004 6 out of 6 found this review helpful
This is an excellent tape measure for use in the shop. I work in a custom cabinet shop and use one of these all day long. The heavier construction (especially the thicker blade) helps this tape measure hold up very well. The flimsier Stanley tape measures don't last hardly anytime in this environment. All of our rough lumber comes in 12 and 14 ft. lengths so a 16 ft. tape is long enough for anything I need to measure in the shop.
I especially like the combination of sturdiness and size. I don't wear a tool belt while in the shop and either clip the tape measure on my regular belt or keep it in my pocket. The new FatMax tapes that Stanley is pushing now are too big and heavy. I'm sure that they hold up well but it feels like a boat anchor on your belt and doesn't fit in your pocket. Not only are they bulky but to get the extended holdout Stanley increased the curvature of the tape which makes them more difficult to use.
The only compliant I have with these tapes is that Stanley seems to be phasing them out in favor of the FatMax line. The MaxSteel are getting pretty hard to find. You can't get replacement blades for them even from Stanley (caught one in a saw that was still spinning). My suggestion is grab'em while you can.
Eight Years January 26, 2003 5 out of 6 found this review helpful
Prior to my purchase of this 16' model from Stanley I would go through one 16' tape a year. Those included some of Stanley's other models as well. This tape is exactly what it says it is...contractor grade. I have dropped this countless time and have yet to bend the end. What I really like about this product is that I take it for granted. I trust this tape with helping to put food on my table.
The best tape ever April 19, 2000 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
Since I first bought this series of tapes I have been nothing but satisfied. When most tapes get wet ant get dirty they start to stick and not recoil, but these tapes don't have any trouble. They also go out further than most other tapes which greatly helps when you're trying take measurements up in the air.
