Excellent little compressor September 6, 2008 Great compressor! I bought this to run a paint spray gun to prime and paint 600 square feet of my basement, plus the ceiling (rafters, ductwork and all). After using the compressor all week, I am very impressed.
First, mine was delivered free 2-day via Amazon Prime (FedEx) with no damage (I signed up for the free 1 month trial). Next, the noise: If you have never owned or worked with a compressor, you will find this loud (almost as loud as a vacuum cleaner). But if you have worked with a Craftsman or Porter Cable 3,600 rpm compressor before (which sound like a full-throttle Harley driving by), you will find the MAK2400 is SO nice and quiet. It just purrs. Put it in the next room, run your hose in, turn the radio on to normal volume, and you won't even hear it running.
It charges an empty tank in about 1 to 1.5 minutes, or does the normal 100 to 130 psi recovery in about 18-20 sec. It is a bit of a pain to move, but if you rest the back "tank side" on your waist and grab the handle, it is manageable for a 200 ft haul.
IMPORTANT: the manual states the MAK2400 (and all Makita air compressors) are designed for 50% duty cycle (they should run no more than 30 minutes of a given hour). High-volume tools that approach 4.2 scfm will need to be run in shifts to give the compressor "breaks". For me, this wasn't a problem if I ran my paint spray gun with only center-air delivery (compressor cycled on and off), but if I opened up the shaping air nozzles to "flatten" the paint spray, it kept the compressor running 99% so I had to take breaks.
Awesome portable (albeit bulky) compressor August 19, 2008 This is an awesome compressor. I had a MAC700 which was 'liberated' from my garage recently. I had a minor issue with it (the pressure switch started leaking) which Makita fixed with a little bit of wrangling (after a failed warranty repair because they didn't bother to replace the bad part, I wrote a letter alerting Makita of my dissatisfaction and requesting a replacement part, which they fulfilled). I really enjoyed that compressor. It was very quiet (compared to the alternatives) and functioned well. It was excellent for inflating tires and balls, running small air tools, and [very] small "blowing" needs. Unfortunately it had a little bit of trouble keeping up with my air impact wrench (IR2131) when removing lug nuts. I have a 60 gallon IR compressor for my large needs, but I -really- didn't like waiting 5 minutes for it to charge up just to take a couple of wheels off my car, so I decided to replace my missing MAC700 with a MAC2400 because of its slightly larger capacity.
I'm one of the lucky ones who received my MAC2400 from Amazon in pristine condition, which made me very happy. The MAC2400 seems a bit noisier than the MAC700, but basically the same. I think the people who think these are noisy haven't heard the alternatives! I chose not to go with the larger Makita (MAC5700?) because reports were that the wheels are -very- flimsy and the whole unit is quite a bit heavier for not much gain in performance. If I had to lug the MAC2400 around every day, I'd probably go back to a MAC700, but the 2400 is a great addition to my garage, and can be taken inside the house or in the car if need be. I've also seen several people mount these on two-wheelers, an idea which intrigues me. But, I'll probably just let it sit happily in my garage and 'spin up' in about minute when I need a small amount of air quickly.
Pleased with purchase August 11, 2008 I received the purchase via UPS without any damage. After reviewing the product reviews, prior to my purchase, I was concerned about the shipping. The compressor works well and is very quiet. The only issue I have is the weight, 77 pounds makes it difficult to carry. I knew this prior to my purchase so I will live with it.

good product July 2, 2008 After a few days of using this with a framing nailer, I am pleased with the performance. The low amp draw and quiet operation are the features that set it apart from similar units. It is heavy (as described), but strapping it to an innexpensive dolly helps to keep it portable.
Rock solid June 23, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
After ordering this compressor the wait was killing me, after it arrived I ran down to my local home center and bought a hose, I imediately plug it in and started shooting nails, this thing is everything the reviews spoke of, quiet, solid, and nice to look at, for just a do it yourselfer IM sure this machine is overkill but I will have it forever and the Amazon price with free shipping you would be out of your damn mind not to buy this one, it's the top of the line.............
