Glad I got it! November 9, 2007 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
Bought the Ultra 12 amp blower/vac (model #51599) based in part on the reviews here-not to mention the great rating Consumer Reports gave it-as a replacement for the Black & Decker Leaf Hog blower/vac BV5000! Have been using it to clear about 1/2 (less the house) acre with 5 oak trees in the front. While it leaves the acorns behind, it does a great job of blowing and vacuuming the leaves. The B&D would clog all the time but the wide mouth on the Toro prevents this. I like the variable speed (but wish it had a seperate on/off switch) which makes it easy to blow the leaves ONTO the driveway instead of across it. While it is light and easy to handle, long use is tiring and a strap of some sort would be helpful. I jury-rigged a nylon luggage strap across the 'T' handles and it takes the load off my arms, while freeing my left hand for a nice cold beer! The vacuum part is much better than the B&D. It has more suction, with a larger opening for those big oak leaves and mulches fairly well. Used in conjunction with the leaf collection system (model #51500) I rate this A++.
Toro Ultra November 7, 2007 Very easy to use. Parts easily changeable. Can get a bit heavy, particularly when bag fills up, but then again, I'm fairly small. Shipping was very timely. Would highly recommend.
Works great in both modes November 6, 2007 I have a large yard with many old trees, including several pecan trees. The blower is very strong and lets me easily blow everything into one area for vacuuming. Even the pecans on the top of the grass are blown along easily. Vacuuming/mulching is also quite good. I was worried about the pecans, but it picks them up and pulverizes them easily, along with the leaves and other debris. There's an adjustable shoulder strap so you can get the end of the vacuum tube at the right height without wearing out your shoulders and arms. The material is ground up nicely and allows a lot more debris to go into a bag. Vacuuming is a very dusty operation and you need a dust mask. Afterwards I set it back to blowing and had my wife blast enough of the dust off my clothes that I could come back inside the house. I find that switching from vacuuming to blowing is quick and easy.
Great product for an excellent price November 5, 2007 I have used it to blow leaves and then vacuum them it works great. If there is other stuff besides leaves that it sucks up it sometimes chokes but all we have to do is just reattached the vacuum and it works back great. Excellent product for this price.
Great useful item November 5, 2007 Strong blower, strong vacuum, does what it is intended to do. When vacuuming, don't forget to CLOSE the zipper on the collection bag or you will look like Leafman. Easy to change back and forth from vacuum to blower.
