First impressions November 3, 2008 I am a more or less light user of MS Office: Word/Excel/Powerpoint. I know the basics, but not the slick stuff.
First thing to say is that it installed easily and registration was easy also. This was even true on my wife's machine, where for some unknown reason I could not do hers by the internet and did it by phone. As long as you are paying attention, it's not hard. I also signed up for the automatic updates and have already gone through one of those smoothly.
I have noticed that it does load documents slower than Office 1997-2003, but then seems to operate ok. My machine is a Pentium 4, 2.8GHz and it has 2Gb memory.
They decided to move some things around and you will spend a little time finding some things, at first.
The one thing I did not like is that when you load a document from an older version, it loads it in compatibility mode. You can convert it to the new mode, which seems to be more efficient, but then you can't go back. It seems like you have to stay in compatibility mode if you are going to ship documents to other people who have older versions. They can download and install a free conversion tool from Microsoft, but depending on who you are dealing with, this might not be a viable option.
I'm sure I have just barely scratched the surface of what the new tools can do. There is probably more upside for users with more expertise going in to the upgrade.
It Does What It's Supposed To Do November 3, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Product is as described. I bought it to obtain a license for my laptop. It allows you up to three installs which is fair. You also get One Note which is a program that usually is not pre-loaded on computers and it is very helpful in organizing projects especially on tablet pc's.
Student version just fine November 3, 2008 My 8th grader needed PowerPoint for school, and I was quite pleased to see that Microsoft offered an affordable version. It was nice receiving other software in that bundle as well. Money well spent.
Open Source or Microsoft ? November 2, 2008 Hi, I was thinking of using Open Office because it is free; however, all the add-ins I use in Excel are not compatible with Open Office. This is the main reason I bought Office 2007 basic. This version has just what I need: Excel, Word, and Power Point. No need to buy Outlook because I have Windows Live Mail - and it is free.
