Sensitive portrayal of character. July 26, 2005 3 out of 5 found this review helpful
I am never disappointed in Pierce Brosnan. He delivers again with a true-to-life characterization of a man who believes in simple things and achieves fame.
Surprisingly Good February 14, 2005 6 out of 8 found this review helpful
I'm not usually a Pierce Brosnan fan but after I got over my initial doubts about him playing a Native Indian, I actually started to really get into this movie. Maybe it is somewhat romaticized but the underlying message of this film is more Important than ever.It was a refreshing change from other movie genres...I especially liked the Baby Beavers who are super cute A must for animal and nature lovers-D
Grey Owl January 9, 2005 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
There's no denying that Grey Owl is not the best movie ever made, but it is a good, inspirational tribute to a remarkable and unique Canadian who was an early and almost lone voice in advocating the protection of Canada's wilderness, which by the 1930s was already being despoiled by over-exploitation of game and natural resources.
Pierce Brosnan...as an Indian...enough said... October 17, 2004 2 out of 14 found this review helpful
This is not a good movie. I saw it in my U.S. History class and struggled to stay awake. I'm a history major and love all things dealing with history, but again, this was not a good movie. I didn't particularly enjoy the plot, but what really brought the movie down was the fact that the cinematography could have been much better. If you're into white guys dressing up like Indians try "The Last of the Mohicans" instead.
Grey Owl September 12, 2004 13 out of 13 found this review helpful
Pierce Brosnan is very good in the title role, and newcomer Annie Galipeau is delightful as his young wife. The film makers squeeze every ounce of drama out of Grey Owl's life. The dvd comes with a clutch of short interviews with cast and crew, a short "On Location With" video and, most delightfully, two 10-minutes films featuring the real Grey Owl, made in the 1930s. A pleasant enough film with some moving scenes between Galipeau and Brosnan, although non-environmentalists may ask what all the fuss is about..
